About Altadena Town & Country Club
Altadena Town & Country Club is a 115-year-old private, member-owned club at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. The January 2025 Eaton Fire destroyed the Club’s historic clubhouse, and the Club is now operating from temporary facilities while it rebuilds toward a planned 2029 reopening. Members are still here every day for tennis, pickleball, swimming, events, and time with their families, and they count on the property being safe, clean, and ready when they arrive.
ATCC is a member-first club with deep multigenerational roots. We look for team members who are reliable, take pride in their work, and take ownership of the job in front of them. The people who join us now will help keep the Club running through the rebuild and be part of the team that opens the new clubhouse.
Position Overview
The Porter keeps the Club clean, tidy, and ready for members every day. This role opens the property in the morning, walks the grounds, cleans restrooms, clears courts and walkways, keeps furniture aligned and stations stocked, and makes sure setups are done right.
Members notice everything: a clean restroom, tables and chairs lined up, a stocked water station, courts clear before the first match, planters that look cared for. Most of this work goes unnoticed when it is done right, and it is noticed immediately when it is not.
Success in this role means the property is clean, aligned, stocked, and presentation-ready before members arrive and stays that way through the shift, with no reminders needed and no corners cut.
Essential Responsibilities
Opening & Walkthroughs
• Open on schedule and complete the opening checklist before members arrive, covering restrooms, courts, walkways, the pool deck, the tent, and other member areas.
• Walk the full property on a regular schedule through the shift and correct issues without waiting to be asked.
• Report repairs, damage, and safety concerns to management, with the location and what you saw.
Restrooms
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, including temporary restrooms, on a set schedule through each shift: toilets, sinks, counters, mirrors, fixtures, and floors.
• Keep soap, paper products, and other supplies stocked so they never run out during operating hours.
• Report plumbing problems and temporary restroom service needs right away.
Courts, Grounds & Common Areas
• Clear tennis and pickleball courts, walkways, entry paths, patios, and the pool deck of leaves and debris before first use and as needed through the day.
• Empty trash and recycling and keep receptacles clean.
• Keep tables, chairs, umbrellas, and lounge furniture clean and aligned.
• Keep planters and landscaped areas tidy, and water as assigned.
• Clean and restock water stations.
Tent, Hub & Member Spaces
• Keep the tent, the Hub, viewing areas, and other member spaces clean and ready: sweep, wipe down surfaces, clean glass, and clear clutter.
• Address spills and messes as soon as they are found.
Events & Setups
• Set up and break down member events, tournaments, and Club functions, including tables, chairs, umbrellas, and signage, according to the setup plan.
• Reset spaces after events so the property is ready for the next morning.
Supplies & Equipment
• Keep cleaning carts, supply closets, and storage areas organized and ready to use.
• Monitor cleaning and restroom supplies and let management know before anything runs low.
Safety & Communication
• Follow all Club safety procedures, including the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and Heat Illness Prevention procedures.
• Use cleaning chemicals according to label instructions and Safety Data Sheets, never mix chemicals, and store them properly. Does not handle pool chemicals.
• Use required personal protective equipment and keep work areas safe for members, guests, and staff.
• Report hazards, injuries, and unsafe conditions to management immediately.
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with members, coworkers, and management.
• Perform other cleaning and operational duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required
• Flexible availability, including mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• High personal standards for cleanliness and presentation.
• Ability to follow checklists and schedules and work independently without constant supervision.
• Comfortable using standard cleaning equipment, including blowers, brooms, mops, and carts.
• Familiarity with safe chemical handling and the ability to follow Safety Data Sheets.
• Reliable attendance, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with members, coworkers, and management.
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat.
Preferred
• Experience in janitorial, housekeeping, porter, or grounds work.
• Experience at a private club, hotel, resort, or other hospitality property.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus, but not required.
Physical Requirements
This is a physically demanding role. The Porter must be able to stand and move for the length of a shift, perform repetitive cleaning tasks, bend, kneel, and reach, work outdoors in varying weather and in wet areas, and lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Core Expectations
The Porter takes ownership of how the Club looks and feels to members every day. That means doing every item on the checklist, every shift, catching problems before members do, and flagging anything that needs a repair. As a non-exempt employee, the Porter is expected to accurately record all time worked and take the meal and rest breaks the Club provides.
Benefits
This position is eligible for the Club’s health plan and 401(k) plan, subject to the terms of each plan, along with paid sick leave.
Equal Opportunity Employer
Altadena Town & Country Club is an equal opportunity employer and evaluates qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
Acknowledgment
I have read and understand the responsibilities and expectations outlined in this position description. I acknowledge that this document does not constitute an employment contract and that my employment with Altadena Town & Country Club is on an at-will basis.
