Overview

\n

The Assistant Planner is a full-time, hybrid role based in Oakland, CA, with the flexibility to work from home three days a week. This position supports planning and environmental projects by conducting research, compiling and analyzing data, and assisting with the preparation of technical documents and reports.

Position Responsibilities

\n

The Assistant Planner helps coordinate stakeholder and community engagement activities, including public meetings, outreach events, and communication materials. Day-to-day responsibilities include organizing project files, tracking project schedules and milestones, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring that deliverables meet quality standards and regulatory requirements. The role also involves supporting senior staff with project administration tasks such as documentation, meeting notes, and client correspondence.

Qualifications

  • Ability to conduct planning and environmental research, interpret regulations, and synthesize data into clear summaries and reports.
  • \n

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for drafting technical documents, outreach materials, and stakeholder correspondence.
  • \n

  • Organizational and project coordination skills, including time management, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • \n

  • Experience or coursework in urban planning, environmental studies, public policy, geography, or a related field.
  • \n

  • Competence with common office and collaboration software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools); familiarity with GIS or data visualization tools is a plus.
  • \n

  • Effective working in a hybrid environment, collaborating with colleagues in person and remotely, and engaging with diverse communities and stakeholders.
  • \n

  • Bachelor’s degree in planning, environmental science, public administration, or a related discipline is preferred; relevant internships or entry-level experience in consulting or public sector work are beneficial.

Salary Range

$63,300 - $82400
