Little Joey's is hiring a part time aide to care for a small group of infants in a home-based setting where children are valued, trusted, and free to explore.
About Little Joey's
Little Joey's In Home Daycare is a licensed family child care home in Berkeley, CA, open since January 2025. We care for a small group of children, ages 7 months to 1.5 years, in a warm home environment. We are currently looking for a part-time aide with the possibility of fulltime in the near future.
Our Philosophy: The Joey Approach
Our approach is play-based, anti-bias and emergent at its core. We don't run children through checklists, bells, or one-size-fits-all routines. We follow their curiosity, protect their freedom to play, and honor each child as a whole person who is figuring out the world in real time.
Our role is that of a guide: close enough to keep children safe, far enough back to let them explore, struggle, discover, and grow at their own pace. We learn about children through close observation, not testing, and we partner with families as the experts on their own children.
The Role
Position: Aide (Part-time)
Schedule: 4 hours a day, Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 1:00 pm.
Pay: 21-25 per hour depending on experience
Reports to: Owner
Location: Berkeley, CA (in-home program)
You'll work side by side with the owner as a true partner in care, helping shape daily life for our children rather than simply following a script.
What You'll Do
Caring for children
- Provide warm, responsive care for infants and young toddlers, including holding, soothing, feeding support, and nap routines.
- Change diapers and support early toileting with respect, treating care moments as connection rather than tasks to rush through.
- Prepare and serve snacks and meals, following safe food handling and each family's needs.
- Supervise children attentively indoors, outdoors, and on neighborhood walks, keeping them safe while giving them room to take healthy risks.
Supporting play and learning
- Implement our emergent, play-based curriculum, setting up invitations to play and following children's interests as they unfold.
- Observe and document children's play, growth, and discoveries to help guide planning.
- Bring creative ideas for materials, open-ended activities, and ways to make the environment feel inviting and home-like.
- Practice anti-bias care, making sure every child sees their family, culture, and identity reflected and respected.
Partnering with families
- Communicate warmly and clearly with parents at drop-off and pick-up, sharing meaningful moments from each child's day.
- Post updates, photos, and daily reports through our childcare software. Keeping the program running
- Help with light administrative tasks such as attendance, sign-in and sign-out, supply tracking, and documentation.
- Keep the space clean, organized, and safe, following health and licensing requirements.
Non-Negotiables
These are required for every applicant:
- 6 ECE units completed, or currently enrolled in early childhood education coursework. A genuine passion for deinstitutionalizing care. You believe children deserve play, not systems, and you're ready to let go of rigid schedules, behavior charts, and adult-driven routines.
- A commitment to honoring the child. You see children as capable, whole people whose feelings, ideas, and pace deserve respect.
Also required (California licensing): Live Scan background clearance, a TB test, required immunizations, and pediatric CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to complete it before starting).
