About Altadena Town & Country Club

Altadena Town & Country Club is a 115-year-old private, member-owned club at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. The January 2025 Eaton Fire destroyed the Club’s historic clubhouse, and the Club is now operating from temporary facilities while it rebuilds toward a planned 2029 reopening. Members are still here every day for tennis, pickleball, swimming, events, and time with their families, and they count on the property being safe, clean, and ready when they arrive.

ATCC is a member-first club with deep multigenerational roots. We look for team members who are reliable, take pride in their work, and take ownership of the job in front of them. The people who join us now will help keep the Club running through the rebuild and be part of the team that opens the new clubhouse.

Position Overview

The Kids Klub Counselor provides attentive, safe, and engaging care for children participating in Kids Klub and other youth activities at the Club. This position creates a welcoming, fun, and age-appropriate environment where children can play, socialize, and take part in activities while their parents and guardians enjoy the Club.

Kids Klub Counselors actively engage with children, keep the Kids Klub area safe and organized, follow all Club policies and procedures, and provide friendly, professional service to children and their families.

Success in this role means children are safe, engaged, and happy, and parents feel confident leaving them in the Club’s care.

Essential Responsibilities

Child Supervision & Engagement

• Provide active, attentive supervision of children at all times while they are in Kids Klub.

• Engage children in age-appropriate games, crafts, activities, imaginative play, and recreation.

• Encourage positive social interaction, inclusion, sharing, and respectful behavior.

• Stay actively involved with children rather than relying on passive supervision or electronic devices for entertainment.

• Monitor behavior and appropriately redirect unsafe, disruptive, or inappropriate behavior.

• Pay attention to each child’s needs and share concerns with a supervisor or the parent or guardian as appropriate.

• Keep children within designated Kids Klub areas unless they are taking part in an approved Club activity.

Safety & Accountability

• Follow all Club check-in and check-out procedures, and release children only to an authorized parent or guardian.

• Keep accurate attendance and sign-in and sign-out records.

• Know which children are currently in Kids Klub care and maintain appropriate staff-to-child supervision at all times.

• Follow all Club safety procedures, emergency protocols, and youth supervision policies.

• Report injuries, incidents, unusual behavior, and safety concerns to a supervisor immediately, and complete incident documentation when required.

• Never leave children unattended.

• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with children and families at all times.

• Follow procedures for allergies, medical information, and emergency contacts provided by parents or guardians.

• Contact a supervisor or the parent or guardian when a child’s needs go beyond what Kids Klub staff can appropriately provide.

Kids Klub Operations

• Open and close the Kids Klub area before and after scheduled hours, and set up games, crafts, toys, and materials before children arrive.

• Keep the area clean, organized, safe, and presentable throughout each shift.

• Inspect toys, games, furniture, and activity areas regularly for safety concerns or damage.

• Clean and sanitize toys, tables, activity areas, and frequently touched surfaces according to Club procedures.

• Return toys, games, crafts, and supplies to their proper places, and let a supervisor know when supplies need to be replaced or reordered.

Member & Family Service

• Greet children, parents, and guardians warmly and professionally.

• Help children settle into Kids Klub, especially those who are hesitant or new to the program.

• Give parents and guardians updates on their child’s experience when requested.

• Answer basic questions about Kids Klub procedures, and direct policy, scheduling, registration, and billing questions to the appropriate Club staff member.

• Keep information about children, families, and members confidential.

Club Events & Youth Activities

• Support children’s programming during Club events, including holiday events, family activities, and member functions.

• Help with setup, supervision, activities, and cleanup for youth portions of Club events.

• Work cooperatively with other Club departments when children’s programming is part of a larger Club event.

• Perform other youth programming duties as assigned.

Critical Role Expectations

• Active supervision. Stay attentive and engaged with children throughout the shift. Personal phone use is limited to emergencies or authorized Club business while supervising children.

• Child safety. The safety and well-being of children is the highest priority. All supervision, check-in and check-out, and incident-reporting procedures must be followed.

• Mandated reporter. This position may be classified as a mandated reporter under California law. Employees must complete any required training and meet all reporting obligations.

• Professional conduct. Maintain appropriate language, behavior, appearance, and boundaries with children, parents, members, and coworkers.

• Reliability. Staffing is set by the number of children participating, so on-time, dependable attendance is essential.

• Teamwork. Communicate with fellow Kids Klub staff and supervisors, and help coworkers maintain supervision and service levels.

Qualifications

Required

• Ability to communicate comfortably and professionally with children, parents, members, and coworkers.

• Patient, dependable, energetic, and comfortable with children of different ages and personalities.

• Good judgment and the ability to stay calm in unexpected or emergency situations.

• Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and supervisor direction.

• Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain it as required by the Club.

• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred

• Experience working with children in childcare, recreation, camps, schools, after-school programs, babysitting, or similar settings.

• Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Physical Requirements

This role requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, sitting on the floor, and actively playing with children for extended periods, indoors and outdoors. The employee must be able to respond quickly to children and safety concerns, and to lift, move, and carry toys, tables, chairs, and program supplies, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Core Expectations

The Kids Klub Counselor is trusted with members’ children, and that trust is earned every shift through active supervision, clear communication with families, and consistent follow-through on safety procedures. As a non-exempt employee, the Kids Klub Counselor is expected to accurately record all time worked and take the meal and rest breaks the Club provides.

Benefits

This position is eligible for paid sick leave.
