Job DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) to join our medical office. In this role, you will play a critical part in patient care by performing precise, high-quality diagnostic pulmonary function tests (PFTs) to assist physicians in identifying, monitoring, and managing respiratory conditions such as asthma, COPD, and restrictive lung diseases. The ideal candidate is dedicated to patient comfort, technical accuracy, and maintaining rigorous quality control standards for medical equipment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Diagnostic Testing: Administer comprehensive pulmonary function tests, including spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity (DLCO), and bronchial provocation challenges.
  • Patient Care: Instruct, coach, and support patients of diverse age groups to ensure maximum effort and accuracy during testing while maintaining a compassionate environment.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily calibrations, quality control procedures, and routine troubleshooting of PFT equipment to ensure full compliance with ATS/ERS standards.
  • Documentation & Data Management: Accurately record patient data, preliminary test results, and quality control logs in the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system for physician interpretation.
  • Safety & Infection Control: Strictly adhere to institutional safety guidelines and infection control protocols when handling and cleaning respiratory testing equipment.

Job Qualifications

  • Certification: Active Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) credential awarded by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC). Candidates holding an RPFT are also highly encouraged to apply.
  • Education: Associate degree (or higher) from a CoARC-accredited respiratory care program, or equivalent qualifying college coursework (62+ credits including biology and math) with clinical experience.
  • Licensure: Valid state respiratory care practitioner license (if applicable in this state) and current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience working in a dedicated pulmonary function laboratory preferred, but strong newly certified candidates will be considered.
