We are looking for a kind, dependable, and experienced caregiver to help care for my mother, who is in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s/dementia.
Schedule: Friday through Sunday, 4:30–7:30 PM
Pay: $20-25/hour
Start Date: Ideally August 28
The most important qualification for this position is previous experience caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia. We are looking for someone who understands how important consistency, patience, and established routines are for someone with dementia. You should be comfortable following my mom’s daily/evening routine closely and providing gentle reminders, companionship, and assistance as needed.
We are also a cat-loving household, so you must genuinely enjoy being around cats and be comfortable helping with their care. There are two indoor cats as well as a small outdoor cat colony that our family cares for.
Responsibilities
• Provide companionship and supervision for my mother during the evening.
• Follow her established daily/evening routine consistently And be able to communicate and collaborate with the lead caregiver/caregivers on meals and chores.
• Prepare dinner on the nights you are there.
• Be comfortable occasionally going out to eat with her instead of cooking.
• Perform light housekeeping as needed, such as tidying the kitchen, dishes, wiping counters, and other small household tasks.
• Feed the two indoor cats.
• Dispose of/clean cat litter as needed.
• Help feed the outdoor cats and make sure they have fresh water.
• Help maintain the established routine for both my mom and the cats.
Ideal Candidate
• Previous hands-on experience caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or dementia is required.
• Patient, calm, compassionate, and comfortable redirecting someone with dementia when necessary.
• Understands the importance of maintaining familiar routines and consistency.
• Reliable and punctual.
• Comfortable preparing simple meals.
• Willing to help with light household tasks without needing constant direction.
• Must love cats and be comfortable caring for both indoor and outdoor cats.
• Looking for someone dependable who can ideally become a consistent and familiar presence in my mom’s life.
We are hoping to find someone who will not only provide caregiving assistance but will also develop a warm, trusting relationship with my mom. Consistency and finding the right personality fit are extremely important to our family.
