Job Description

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Litigation Personal Injury Case Manager to oversee complex, significant pre-litigation matters. This role is ideal for a strategic and highly organized case professional who understands how to develop serious-injury claims, identify case value, and proactively move matters toward the strongest possible resolution.

Position Overview

The Litigation Personal Injury Case Manager will work closely with supervising attorneys to manage a select caseload of complex and potentially high-value matters from intake through settlement or litigation referral.

Cases may involve catastrophic injuries, significant medical treatment, disputed liability, commercial defendants, multiple insurance policies, substantial wage loss, long-term care needs, or other complex damages.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent judgment, urgency, accountability, and client communication. This position requires more than administrative case management—it requires strategic case development, early identification of risk, and close collaboration with attorneys, medical providers, experts, and internal departments.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage a specialized caseload of complex and high-value pre-litigation Personal Injury matters.
  • Conduct comprehensive case reviews and develop case-specific action plans with the supervising attorney.
  • Identify potential case value, liability concerns, insurance coverage issues, and additional responsible parties early in the claim.
  • Maintain consistent and compassionate communication with clients regarding treatment, claim status, case expectations, and next steps.
  • Monitor medical treatment and ensure that injuries, diagnoses, procedures, referrals, future-care needs, and ongoing limitations are thoroughly documented.
  • Gather and organize medical records, billing statements, wage-loss documentation, incident reports, photographs, insurance information, and other supporting evidence.
  • Investigate liability and preserve important evidence, including video footage, witness information, vehicle data, governmental records, and commercial insurance information.
  • Identify all available insurance coverage, including primary, excess, umbrella, commercial, uninsured, and underinsured motorist policies.
  • Coordinate with investigators, medical providers, experts, consultants, lien holders, and outside vendors as needed.
  • Work with clients and attorneys to document the full effect of an injury, including pain and suffering, emotional distress, diminished quality of life, employment impact, and future medical needs.
  • Recognize matters that may require life-care planning, economic analysis, accident reconstruction, expert review, or other specialized support.
  • Prepare detailed case summaries and provide attorneys with clear recommendations regarding strategy, valuation, settlement opportunities, and litigation referral.
  • Coordinate with the Demand Writing Department to ensure demand packages are complete, accurate, persuasive, and supported by appropriate documentation.
  • Review settlement offers, prepare negotiation summaries, and assist attorneys with settlement strategy.
  • Monitor statutes of limitation, governmental claim deadlines, insurance deadlines, and other critical case dates.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely case notes, tasks, documents, and communications in Litify.
  • Escalate liability disputes, treatment concerns, client issues, coverage problems, and other case risks promptly.
  • Prepare files for an efficient transition to the Litigation Department when pre-litigation resolution is not appropriate.
  • Participate in regular case-review meetings with attorneys and leadership.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all Firm policies, procedures, and ethical requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of Personal Injury case-management experience, preferably with a plaintiff-side law firm.
  • Demonstrated experience handling serious-injury, complex, or high-value pre-litigation matters.
  • Strong knowledge of California Personal Injury claims, insurance coverage, medical treatment, liens, damages, and pre-litigation procedures.
  • Proven ability to independently manage cases while recognizing when attorney involvement or escalation is required.
  • Strong understanding of case valuation and the documentation needed to support economic and noneconomic damages.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, emotional intelligence, and client-service awareness.
  • Proficiency with case-management systems; Litify or Salesforce experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and related business applications.
  • Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills are highly preferred.

Preferred Experience

  • Catastrophic injury, wrongful death, traumatic brain injury, spinal injury, commercial vehicle, premises liability, rideshare, or multi-party claims.
  • Cases involving substantial wage loss, future medical care, permanent impairment, or life-care planning.
  • Commercial, excess, umbrella, uninsured, or underinsured motorist coverage.
  • Medicare, Medi-Cal, ERISA, hospital, medical-provider, and other complex liens.
  • Collaboration with accident reconstructionist, medical experts, economists, vocational specialists, and life-care planners.
  • Successful development and resolution of seven-figure Personal Injury matters.

Key Competencies

  • Sound judgment and risk identification
  • Case ownership and accountability
