Steven Lahey with Robert Half is hiring on behalf of our client a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support financial operations and help maintain accurate, compliant accounting practices in Winton, California. This position works closely with finance leadership to manage day-to-day accounting activity, contribute to reliable financial reporting, and support funding compliance across a range of programs. Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities across payables, receivables, and payroll support, while providing coverage for essential finance functions as needed.

• Lead monthly close tasks by preparing journal entries, maintaining general ledger accuracy, and assisting with the production of financial reports.

• Perform bank and account reconciliations on a regular basis to verify balances, resolve discrepancies, and strengthen financial accuracy.

• Prepare billing support for assigned grants, including invoice drafts, reimbursement packages, and schedules backed by complete supporting documentation.

• Organize payroll records, vendor materials, receipts, and other source documents required for state, federal, and private funding submissions.

• Partner with the Director of Finance on budgeting activities, forecasting efforts, audit preparation, and grant monitoring processes.

• Maintain orderly physical and electronic records to support departmental operations, retention standards, and audit readiness.

• Provide administrative or supervisory support in the absence of finance leadership and contribute to special projects assigned by management.

• At least 1 year of accounting experience in a staff accountant or similar finance role.
• Working knowledge of general ledger accounting and journal entry preparation.
• Familiarity with US GAAP and standard financial reporting practices.
• Experience performing reconciliations and maintaining accurate supporting documentation.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines with a high level of accuracy.
• Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders.
