Job Description

Junior Data Analyst - Long Term Contract Opportunity

Sunnyvale, CA

About the Role

We are seeking a qualified AI/Data Analyst who will support a measurement engine for next-generation Mixed Reality (MR) hardware. Every optical metric a headset depends on—such as visual sharpness, color accuracy, and binocular display fusion—is validated before the product reaches the market.

Our measurement infrastructure spans approximately 80 instruments and testing stations distributed across global contract manufacturers, display vendors, and internal R&D laboratories. These stations generate over 1.3 billion rows of test data flowing through our specialized data pipeline. While the underlying physics of optics is complex, our primary scaling bottleneck is data engineering. Measurements that do not flow into our core pipeline cannot be analyzed or acted upon.

Key Responsibilities

  • Upstream Data Ingestion: Design and build automated ingestion pipelines and standardized schemas to integrate previously offline laboratory and bench measurement data into the primary data platform.
  • Tool Calibration AI Agent: Develop an intelligent agent and system of record to track instrument certifications, trigger automated maintenance alerts, and coordinate service scheduling across testing facilities.
  • Production Test Analytics: Implement automated analytics layers to conduct measurement system analysis (Gauge R&R), station-to-station cross-correlation, and drift detection across large-scale production test datasets.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Proficiency in Python or TypeScript/JavaScript, with the ability and willingness to quickly learn the other.
  • Working knowledge of SQL and practical experience querying relational or columnar data stores.
  • Strong foundation in core statistics and data modeling (e.g., probability distributions, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, model fitting, and evaluation on held-out data).
  • Hands-on experience building functional software artifacts used by others (e.g., tools, pipelines, dashboards, models, or software libraries; relevant academic coursework project artifacts qualify).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with hardware test data, time-series data, or large-scale manufacturing metrics.
  • Familiarity with building LLM-based tools, AI agents, or automated workflow orchestration systems.
  • Background in optical engineering, display technology, metrology, or physical science principles.
  • Familiarity with distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark) or modern data pipeline orchestration tools.
  • Experience with statistical quality control concepts, such as Gauge R&R, measurement uncertainty, or SPC (Statistical Process Control).
