Job Description

ABOUT US:

\n

Parnall Trust and Estate Law, PC (www.davidparnall.com) is a small, reputable, and growing law practice based in Oakland, California. We focus primarily on trust and estate litigation, administration, and related practice areas such as partition actions, elder abuse restraining orders, and financial elder abuse. We are not estate planners. We are open to attorneys developing their estate planning practices if interested—albeit while mocking them because planning is boring and litigation is fun.

\n

\n

We provide top-notch legal representation to clients who we genuinely care about. We do so while balancing the seriousness of what lawyers do with the with humanity and humor of life. I.e. we spend our days mixing oil and water. But it’s always while adhering to the fundamental belief that the lives and needs of our clients, and our team, cannot be fully understood or appreciated if they are only viewed through the prism of the law.

\n

\n

The firm fosters a genuinely collaborative, growth-oriented, and emotionally aware environment. We want what is best for our clients and our team.

\n

\n

The position has a low billables requirement coupled with a scheduled bonus structure. If you make this a lifestyle gig you won’t get side-eye from management. But if you put in the hours then your pay will show it.

\n

\n

THE OPPORTUNITY:

\n

We seek a highly motivated mid-level Associate Attorney with 4–6+ years of experience. Candidates must: (1) show a demonstrated interest in TE law; (2) be smart and precise as hell; (3) be unafraid of appropriate creativity; and (4) demonstrate these things through A+ writing and analytical skills. Ideally you will possess a strong background in TE law, strong litigation instincts and advocacy skills, and the ability to manage cases with minimal supervision.

\n

\n

The firm has offices in Oakland. Three days per week in-office, two remote. Greater remote time is possible once you’ve demonstrated your ability to handle it.

\n

\n

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

You will have the opportunity to handle all aspects of trust and estate litigation, i.e.:

  • \n

  • Collaborate with the team while taking ownership of your matters
  • \n

  • Prepare for and conduct trials
  • \n

  • Communicate effectively with clients and everyone else
  • \n

  • Treat opposing counsel and co-workers with professionalism and respect. Toxicity is not welcome, whether internal or external to the firm. We’re here to resolve drama, not create it.
  • \n

  • \n

\n

\n
