Mental Health Clinician
Location: Van Nuys, CA
Schedule: Full-Time
Salary: $115k - $125k (depending on experience) + benefits
License Required: LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC
Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Mental Health Clinician to provide clinical mental health services, crisis intervention, and support to individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, trauma, and co-occurring disorders.
This role is ideal for a licensed clinician who is passionate about trauma-informed care, harm reduction, Housing First principles, and providing meaningful support to high-acuity individuals in need of coordinated care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide individualized mental health services, including crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning, and psychoeducation.
- Conduct suicide risk assessments and develop appropriate safety plans.
- Provide direct clinical support to high-acuity participants with immediate mental health and behavioral needs.
- Develop, facilitate, and lead psychoeducational groups.
- Create psychoeducation and training materials tailored to participant needs.
- Supervise and support unlicensed Mental Health Professionals, including guidance on participant care, clinical decision-making, documentation, productivity, and service outcomes.
- Collaborate with shelter staff, case managers, program staff, and external agencies to coordinate comprehensive care plans.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to support alignment of services and program goals.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in HMIS and electronic health record systems.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Provide training and consultation to staff on trauma-informed care, de-escalation techniques, and mental health best practices.
- Participate in supervision, case consultations, and professional development activities.
Qualifications
- Active California license required: LMFT, LCSW, or LPCC.
- Minimum of two years of post-licensure experience in behavioral health or mental health services.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or co-occurring disorders preferred.
- Experience with mobile crisis response and trauma-informed care preferred.
- Knowledge of Housing First, Harm Reduction, and Trauma-Informed Care principles.
- Understanding of mandatory reporting, Tarasoff requirements, professional boundaries, and clinical confidentiality.
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, documentation, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, HMIS, and electronic health record systems.
- CPR/First Aid certification required.
- Valid California driver’s license, reliable transportation, and proof of vehicle insurance required.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of working hours.
