Job DescriptionWe are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support accurate and timely payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce in Anaheim, California. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who is confident managing end-to-end payroll processes, reconciling payroll-related balances, and ensuring employees are paid correctly across a complex employee population. The role also requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively in a part-time payroll environment while supporting union payroll considerations.
Responsibilities:
• Process complete payroll cycles for employees across multiple states, ensuring wages, deductions, and taxes are handled accurately and on schedule.
• Review payroll records for consistency and resolve discrepancies by performing detailed checks, audits, and balance validations before final submission.
• Administer payroll for a workforce of more than 500 employees while maintaining compliance with company policies and applicable payroll regulations.
• Support part-time payroll activities, including accurate tracking of hours worked, earnings, and related payroll adjustments.
• Manage payroll check processing and confirm funding readiness by coordinating payment verification and bank-related balance reviews.
• Handle payroll considerations tied to freight union employees, applying contract-specific pay rules and related requirements as needed.
• Maintain payroll data within UKG Pro and ensure employee information, earnings elements, and payroll updates are entered correctly.
• Partner with internal teams to address payroll questions, investigate issues, and help maintain a smooth payroll operation.• At least 2 years of experience in payroll, with hands-on responsibility for full-cycle payroll processing.
• Proven experience administering multi-state payroll for a large employee population of 500 or more.
• Working knowledge of payroll reconciliation, payroll checks, and bank balance validation procedures.
• Experience using UKG Pro or a comparable payroll platform in a high-volume environment.
• Familiarity with payroll practices for part-time employees and the ability to manage related pay adjustments accurately.
• Understanding of payroll compliance requirements, including tax withholdings, deductions, and record accuracy.
• Experience supporting union payroll, including freight union pay rules, is strongly preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a dependable approach to meeting payroll deadlines.
