  • Role Description
  • \n

  • Receive and process new prescriptions and refill requests accurately and efficiently.
  • \n

  • Enter and maintain patient, prescriber, allergy, insurance, and prescription information in the pharmacy management system.
  • \n

  • Process third-party insurance claims and assist with resolving claim rejections, coverage issues, refill-too-soon rejections, and other billing problems.
  • \n

  • Assist with prior authorization intake and communication with prescribers, patients, and insurance plans as directed.
  • \n

  • Prepare, package, and label prescription medications for pharmacist verification.
  • \n

  • Perform accurate pharmacy calculations, counting, measuring, and preparation of medications.
  • \n

  • Assist with nonsterile compounding according to pharmacy policies, established formulas, and applicable standards.
  • \n

  • Accurately weigh and measure ingredients and complete required compounding documentation.
  • \n

  • Follow appropriate procedures for handling hazardous medications, when applicable.
  • \n

  • Maintain clean, organized, and appropriately stocked prescription and compounding work areas.
  • \n

  • Assist patients with prescription pickup and provide professional, friendly, and courteous customer service.
  • \n

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, prescribers, insurance companies, wholesalers, and other healthcare professionals.
  • \n

  • Order, receive, organize, and maintain medications and pharmacy supplies.
  • \n

  • Monitor inventory for expired, recalled, damaged, or short-dated medications and assist with appropriate removal and documentation.
  • \n

  • Assist with specialty medication coordination, including prescription intake, insurance processing, refill coordination, and patient communication, as applicable.
  • \n

  • Maintain accurate records and protect patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and pharmacy policies.
  • \n

  • Follow all applicable federal and California pharmacy laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • \n

  • Perform other pharmacy-related duties within the scope of practice of a California Pharmacy Technician as assigned by the supervising pharmacist.

Qualifications

\n

    \n
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • \n

  • Current and active registration with the California State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • \n

  • Previous pharmacy technician experience preferred, particularly in a retail, or compounding pharmacy setting.
  • \n

  • Prior compounding experience is a plus but is not required.
  • \n

  • Experience with prescription intake, data entry, third-party billing, insurance claim processing, medication preparation, and dispensing workflow preferred.
  • \n

  • Knowledge of commonly used brand and generic medication names, dosage forms, strengths, and pharmacy terminology.
  • \n

  • Strong pharmacy math skills, including dosage calculations, percentages, ratios, conversions, weights, and measurements.
  • \n

  • Strong computer and data-entry skills.
  • \n

  • PioneerRx experience preferred.
  • \n

  • Ability and willingness to learn new pharmacy software, technology, and workflow systems.
  • \n

  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and patient safety.
  • \n

  • Excellent organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills.
  • \n

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced pharmacy environment.
  • \n

  • Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills with a patient-centered approach.
  • \n

  • Ability to communicate professionally with patients, pharmacists, prescribers, insurance representatives, and other healthcare professionals.
  • \n

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • \n

  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
  • \n

  • Dependable, punctual, professional, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • \n

  • Willingness to learn compounding procedures, specialty pharmacy services, and new pharmacy workflows as the pharmacy grows.
  • \n

Physical Requirements

\n

Ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive pharmacy preparation tasks, use pharmacy equipment and computer systems, and lift and move pharmacy supplies as necessary.
