Job Description
JobSource is hiring a Maintenance Mechanic 2 for a food processing company in Vernon, CA. This position is involved in the maintenance, repair, and installation of industrial machinery, refrigeration, electrical, and mechanical systems in a food processing plant. The Maintenance Mechanic ensures that all production equipment is maintained and in proper operating order, and diagnoses equipment and machinery failures and takes corrective action with minimal supervision. This role performs preventative maintenance on equipment and machinery and documents all reports and logs. It also repairs or replaces parts as needed, including fabricating parts on lathes and milling machines, welding, or soldering. The mechanic works on refrigeration components, starts compressors as required, and uses a variety of hand and power tools, saws, and welding equipment.
This position is 1st shift with a 5:00 AM start, Monday to Saturday, and reports directly to the Maintenance Manager.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production line and facility equipment
• Perform preventive maintenance routines on all equipment
• Assist in the design and installation of new equipment or layouts
• Assist with the operation of production line equipment
• Assist in other areas of plant maintenance as needed
• Maintain proper housekeeping in all areas
• Participate in the company’s emergency response team
• Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical failures
• Replace gearboxes and motors
• Disassemble and assemble production equipment
• Perform basic mechanical rebuilds of small mechanical equipment
• Understand low voltage safety circuits
• Weld different metals, mainly stainless steel
• All other duties as assigned by management
Requirements
• High school diploma or GED
• Courses from a junior college or technical institute, job-related seminars, and ongoing education
• Pump repairs: centrifugal and positive displacement
• System troubleshooting techniques, including schematic reading
• Construction electrical skills
• Experience with utility-related equipment: boilers, water systems, air compressors, HVAC
• Experience with automated and high-speed packaging equipment
• Knowledge of and experience with computerized maintenance management systems
• Able to troubleshoot pneumatic and mechanical equipment: 4 years
• Electrical experience: 2-3 years
• Welding experience: 1-3 years
