Responsibilities
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and dental materials before procedures
- Assist the dentist during examinations and complex dental procedures
- Sterilize and disinfect dental instruments and equipment following safety guidelines
- Take and process dental X-rays when permitted by local regulations
- Prepare patients for treatment and help them feel comfortable and relaxed
- Record medical and dental histories and update patient charts accurately
- Provide patients with instructions for oral care after procedures
- Mix and prepare dental materials such as impressions or temporary fillings
- Maintain infection-control and safety standards throughout the facility
- Schedule appointments and assist with basic administrative duties when needed
- Maintain inventory and restock dental supplies on a regular basis
- Follow patient confidentiality requirements and office policies
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Dental Assistant certification or X-ray certification where required by state regulations
- CPR certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, and sterilization techniques
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for patient interaction
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient confidentiality
- Experience working in a community health clinic or dental office setting is a plus
