Job Title: Phlebotomist

Job Description

This role offers a mostly outpatient phlebotomy opportunity, with the potential for some inpatient work for those who are skilled and comfortable in that setting. You will perform blood draws on patients of all ages, from pediatric to geriatric, while providing accurate specimen collection and processing in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and other blood draw procedures on patients across all age groups, including pediatric and geriatric populations.
  • Collect blood and other specimens according to established laboratory and healthcare protocols.
  • Process specimens accurately, ensuring proper labeling, handling, and preparation for laboratory analysis.
  • Verify and enter patient information and specimen data into laboratory or hospital systems with a high level of accuracy.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to patients, families, and clinical staff during all interactions.
  • Follow medical terminology and laboratory procedures to ensure compliance with healthcare standards and regulations.
  • Work effectively in both outpatient and, when applicable, inpatient settings while adapting to different workflows and patient needs.
  • Collaborate with internal staff and laboratory personnel, demonstrating reliability and a strong work ethic.
  • Retain and apply training to maintain high-quality performance and earn trust and respect within the department.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, adhering to infection control and safety guidelines.
  • Support the overall efficiency of the hospital and laboratory by assisting with specimen collection, processing, and related tasks as needed.

Essential Skills

  • Hands-on experience in phlebotomy and venipuncture.
  • Proficiency in performing blood draws and specimen collection on patients of all ages.
  • Ability to process specimens accurately, including proper labeling and handling.
  • Competence in pediatric and geriatric blood drawing techniques.
  • Strong data entry skills with attention to detail in recording patient and specimen information.
  • Effective customer service skills for interacting with patients and healthcare staff.
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations and workflows.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology relevant to phlebotomy and laboratory procedures.
  • Availability to work any day of the week on designated shifts (1st, 2nd, or 3rd).

  • Experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated reliability and consistency in attendance and performance.
  • Willingness to help colleagues and contribute positively to the team environment.
  • Ability to quickly learn, retain, and apply training and procedural updates.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for working with internal employees and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Interest in long-term career growth, with the opportunity to access internal job boards and apply for permanent positions after six months.

You will work in a fast-paced hospital and laboratory environment that requires adaptability, focus, and strong teamwork. The role involves close collaboration with experienced internal staff and personnel, where building trust through reliability, willingness to assist, and retention of training is highly valued. You may work on any designated shift—first, second, or third—and must be comfortable with the dynamic nature of patient care and laboratory operation

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Harbor City, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
