ParkerBeth Search Partners is seeking an experienced Director of Construction for a well-established Southern California painting and reconstruction contractor serving HOA, multifamily, and commercial properties.

This is a senior operations leadership role for someone who knows how to lead a production organization. The Director of Construction will oversee day-to-day production performance and bring consistency, accountability, and financial discipline across Project Managers, Superintendents, field teams, scheduling, forecasting, billing, safety, quality, and client relationships.

The right person is a hands-on operational leader who can keep multiple projects and teams moving, identify problems early, protect profitability, and establish the systems and accountability needed to support continued growth.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • Approximately $180K target starting total compensation
  • Base salary of $110K–$130K
  • Performance bonus tied to company EBITDA and production gross profit
  • Direct influence over production performance, profitability, and project execution
  • Leadership responsibility across Project Management, Superintendents, and field operations
  • Join an established Southern California contractor with 50+ years in business
  • Diverse portfolio of HOA, multifamily, commercial, painting, and reconstruction projects
  • Opportunity to strengthen systems, processes, accountability, and operational scalability
  • High visibility and direct interaction with executive leadership

What You’ll Own

  • Lead the overall performance and accountability of the production organization
  • Manage and develop Project Managers, Superintendents, and field leadership
  • Lead weekly Production and Project Manager meetings
  • Maintain accountability across scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and client satisfaction
  • Oversee multiple active projects and ensure teams are meeting production expectations
  • Conduct regular site visits to verify progress, quality, safety, and jobsite standards
  • Drive schedule adherence, manpower planning, and overall production coordination
  • Ensure labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and project sequencing remain aligned
  • Identify and resolve escalated project issues quickly and decisively
  • Strengthen change-order documentation, cost control, and margin protection
  • Review project budgets, forecasts, billing, invoice issues, gross profit, and accounts receivable
  • Partner with Finance and executive leadership on project and departmental financial performance
  • Attend client, HOA board, project kickoff, progress, and site meetings as needed
  • Maintain strong relationships with HOA boards, property managers, consultants, owners, and other project stakeholders
  • Protect client satisfaction while reducing quality issues, callbacks, and warranty exposure
  • Continuously improve production systems, reporting, communication, and operational discipline

What We’re Looking For

  • 10+ years of construction operations, project management, or production leadership experience
  • Experience overseeing at least $10M in annual construction production
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects, teams, and field operations simultaneously
  • Proven ability to lead people, establish expectations, enforce accountability, and resolve conflict
  • Strong understanding of construction scheduling, manpower planning, sequencing, and production management
  • Strong financial fluency, including budgets, forecasting, billing, gross profit, change orders, and AR
  • Experience with reconstruction, renovation, multifamily, HOA, commercial, or occupied-property projects strongly preferred
  • Strong client-facing communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to move comfortably between executive-level discussions, operational meetings, and active jobsites
  • OSHA 30 or equivalent required
  • Bilingual English/Spanish required
  • Experience with Sage, CRM platforms, Excel, and/or construction project-tracking systems preferred

The Right Leadership Style

  • This role is built for a leader who is direct, accountable, organized, financially disciplined, and comfortable making decisions.

You should be able to set clear expectations, hold teams accountable to results, and step into difficult situations when necessary. Just as importantly, you should understand the realities of field operations and know how to balance schedule, labor, cost, quality, safety, and client expectations.

The successful Director will be proactive rather than reactive, identifying operational and financial risks early, creating solutions, and ensuring the production team follows through.

Location & Travel

This position is based in Southern California and requires regular travel to active jobsites throughout the region. The Director of Construction will maintain a strong presence in both the office and the field.

Some projects may also require attendance at after-hours HOA board, client, or project meetings.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $110,000–$130,000
  • Target Total Compensation: Approximately $180,000, including bonus
  • Performance-based bonus tied to company EBITDA and production gross profit
  • Medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays
  • 401(k), subject to company plan
  • Vehicle allowance or mileage reimbursement
