Job Description Summary
We are currently representing a well-established mechanical and plumbing contractor with over 50 years of success in the industry. They are seeking a Project Engineer to support commercial and industrial construction projects involving HVAC, plumbing, mechanical piping, and process piping systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their mechanical construction career who wants hands-on exposure to project management, field operations, procurement, scheduling, and cost control, with a clear path toward an Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager position.
Key Responsibilities
- Support Project Managers on HVAC, plumbing, mechanical piping, and process piping construction projects
- Assist with projects from preconstruction and startup through final closeout
- Manage and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, meeting minutes, and project documentation
- Review mechanical, plumbing, and piping drawings, specifications, and project scopes
- Coordinate HVAC equipment, plumbing fixtures, piping materials, and other project requirements
- Maintain procurement logs and track equipment, materials, and long-lead items
- Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, field crews, and General Contractors
- Assist with project schedules, milestone tracking, and construction sequencing
- Support project budgeting, cost tracking, forecasting, and change order pricing
- Participate in project meetings and communicate updates to internal and external teams
- Work closely with Superintendents and Foremen to resolve field coordination and constructability issues
- Assist with equipment startup, commissioning, punch lists, turnover, and project closeout
- Support tenant improvement, ground-up, design-build, and design-assist mechanical projects
Qualifications
- 1–3+ years of construction experience preferred
- Experience or education related to HVAC, plumbing, mechanical piping, or process piping preferred
- Interest in building a long-term career in mechanical construction project management
- Basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation
- Familiarity with RFIs, submittals, change orders, procurement, and scheduling is a plus
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical and plumbing drawings preferred
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work closely with both office and field teams
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with construction management software preferred
