Job: Accounting Specialist (Payroll & Accounts Payable)
Location: Oakland, CA
Onsite: 5x onsite per week
Hourly Range: $43.94-$52.88, depending on experience
Benefits: This position is eligible for medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)
An established legal firm is seeking an Accounting Specialist to support its Finance team with a focus on payroll and accounts payable. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, discreet, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Process recurring and off-cycle payroll and maintain accurate employee records
- Review timekeeping, deductions, employee changes, and payroll discrepancies.
- Respond to payroll questions and maintain confidential payroll documentation.
- Process daily AP, including invoices, vendor setup, payments, and reconciliations.
- Review expense reports and corporate credit card activity.
- Support month-end/year-end activities and other Finance projects.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of payroll experience
- Experience with payroll, HRIS, and accounting systems.
- Professional services or corporate environment preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information and competing deadlines.
- Collaborative, dependable, and hands-on approach.
