We are looking for an experienced VP Credit Risk to support a financial services institution through a Long-term Contract engagement. This position focuses on strengthening credit risk governance, shaping policy direction, and providing senior-level guidance across lending and risk functions. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in financial services risk oversight and is comfortable engaging with regulatory bodies while helping the organization maintain a sound and effective risk framework.


Responsibilities:

• Lead the review and enhancement of credit risk policies to ensure they align with business objectives, regulatory expectations, and prudent lending practices.

• Provide strategic advice to senior stakeholders on credit exposure, portfolio trends, and emerging risk concerns across lending activities.

• Evaluate existing credit risk controls and recommend improvements that reinforce governance, accountability, and consistent decision-making.

• Partner with compliance and operational teams to support due diligence efforts and strengthen alignment between credit risk and AML-related considerations.

• Oversee the development and validation of credit risk methodologies and models used to assess portfolio performance and potential loss exposure.

• Prepare clear risk insights, reporting materials, and recommendations for executive leadership and relevant oversight committees.

• Engage with financial services regulators and assist in responding to reviews, inquiries, and examination-related requests.

• Contribute to broader risk management strategies by identifying vulnerabilities, monitoring key indicators, and promoting effective mitigation plans.

• Extensive experience in credit risk leadership within a financial institution, credit union, or broader financial services environment.
• Strong knowledge of credit risk policy development, governance practices, and enterprise risk management frameworks.
• Demonstrated ability to work with financial services regulators and navigate regulatory expectations with confidence.
• Hands-on experience in risk analysis, portfolio assessment, and the interpretation of credit risk trends.
• Familiarity with AML, due diligence processes, and their relationship to overall risk oversight.
• Understanding of credit risk models, including their application, limitations, and governance requirements.
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders through sound judgment, clear communication, and practical risk recommendations.
