Job Description Assistant Project Manager – Commercial Construction
Santa Clara, CA | Direct Hire | Career Path to Project Manager
An established, family-owned commercial contractor in Santa Clara is seeking an Assistant Project Manager to join its close-knit project management team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career construction professional who wants more than a support role. You'll gain exposure to the full project lifecycle and have the opportunity to develop into a Project Manager.
The company has approximately 40 employees, very low turnover, and many employees with 5–10+ years of tenure. They perform a high volume of commercial and industrial projects throughout Silicon Valley, ranging from tenant improvements and fast-track projects to technically demanding work in cleanrooms, advanced manufacturing, R&D and critical facility environments.
What You'll Do
- Support multiple commercial construction projects from setup through closeout
- Assist with schedules, budgets and cost tracking
- Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders and project logs
- Coordinate with clients, subcontractors, vendors and field personnel
- Review drawings, specifications and scopes of work
- Assist with material and equipment procurement
- Participate in project meetings, site walks and inspections

- Work directly with company leadership and experienced Project Managers
What We're Looking For
- 1–3 years of commercial construction experience
- Construction Management, Engineering or related degree preferred; equivalent experience considered
- Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager experience is ideal
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Self-starter who follows through and can manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable working between the office and field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Microsoft Office proficiency
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
Why Consider It?
This is a career-oriented position, not simply another project assignment. The company offers a stable, collaborative environment with direct access to leadership and a defined opportunity to grow into Project Management.
Benefits include:
- Competitive salary based on experience
- Excellent family PPO medical, dental and vision coverage with low deductibles
- 401(k) matching
- 2 weeks paid personal time off

If you have a solid foundation in commercial construction and are looking for a company where you can learn, contribute and build a long-term career, we'd like to hear from you.
