Overview

Independent compounding pharmacy in Playa del Rey seeking a Pharmacy Operations Manager to own daily operations and work directly with our Pharmacist-in-Charge. This is a working manager role — you will run the floor and work it. You’ll own workflow, staffing, inventory, and compliance while filling prescriptions, administering vaccines, and handling patients alongside the team. We are not looking for someone who supervises from a desk.

Key Responsibilities

Operations

  • Own daily pharmacy workflow — prioritization, throughput, turnaround times
  • Work the floor: prescription entry, filling, insurance troubleshooting, patient and prescriber communication
  • Administer vaccines and manage immunization services
  • Support non-sterile compounding operations
  • Serve as the operational decision-maker when the Pharmacist-in-Charge is unavailable, escalating clinical matters appropriately

Team

  • Own technician scheduling, coverage planning, and shift call-off response
  • Train and onboard new technicians and clerks; build and maintain written procedures
  • Set performance expectations, give direct feedback, and address attendance and performance issues
  • Develop existing staff toward immunization certification and compounding competency

Business

  • Own inventory: par levels, ordering, returns, expiry management, vendor coordination
  • Manage insurance billing performance — rejection resolution, audit response, claims accuracy
  • Maintain compliance with California Board of Pharmacy regulations, HIPAA, and safety standards
  • Identify and implement workflow improvements as the pharmacy grows

Required Qualifications

  • Active California Pharmacy Technician License, in good standing
  • Current Immunization Administration Certificate, currently administering vaccines
  • 10+ years as a pharmacy technician, including 6+ years in a lead, supervisory, or management role
  • Currently performing hands-on technician work as a regular part of your job
  • Proficient in customer complaint management — de-escalating and resolving patient issues directly
  • Proficient calling insurance companies and physician offices to resolve coverage, authorizations, rejections, and audits
  • Demonstrated experience training and onboarding staff, and documenting procedures
  • Demonstrated ownership of staff scheduling and coverage
  • Demonstrated ownership of inventory and vendor relationships
  • Proven ability to hold staff accountable on performance and attendance
  • Punctual, organized, and professional — consistent attendance is essential

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience at an established compounding pharmacy
  • Non-sterile compounding experience
  • Independent pharmacy experience
  • DigitalRx experience strongly preferred

This role is for a driven, self-motivated operator who takes ownership without being asked. We’re a small team where everyone’s contribution is visible — people who want to build something thrive here, and people waiting for direction don’t.
