Stationary Engineers, Local 39, is seeking a Business Representative (BR) for the greater San Francisco, CA area. The Business Representative serves as the chief negotiator in contract negotiations, provides professional representation for the membership, including filing all grievances, advising, guiding, and representing members during interactive and disciplinary processes, and recruits new members, among other duties

\n

This is not a 9-to-5 job. There are long, varied hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekend work as necessary. This is an FLSA-exempt position.

\n

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

\n

Serves as the Chief Negotiator at the bargaining table

\n

Enforces all provisions of the collective bargaining agreement

\n

Files grievances and complaints on behalf of the membership

\n

Assist the union law firm in arbitration hearings

\n

Assists the law firm with filing Unfair Labor Practice charges

\n

Participates and assists in Union strike lines

\n

Conducts informational worksite member meetings

\n

Recruits and trains members on their contractual rights

\n

Identifies and trains Union Stewards

\n

Represents members in investigations, skelly meetings, and other disciplinary matters

\n

Represents members in interactive processes for reasonable accommodation

\n

QUALIFICATIONS:

\n

Experience as a Union or Labor Relations Representative for a minimum of three years, and has experience with contract negotiations

\n

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write contract proposals/language, write reports, conduct research, make presentations, etc.

\n

Knowledge of or ability to learn the relevant labor laws such as NLRA, Dills Act, MMBA, FLSA, Cal OSHA, FMLA, Title 22, ADA, or Workers Compensation

\n

Knowledge of worker issues, public workplace issues, labor, and political issues

\n

Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated by the ability to relate, establish, and cultivate respectful relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, including members and employers

\n

Knowledge and experience in bargaining contracts, filing grievances, writing briefs, etc.

\n

Ability to take the lead, to work with a team, and to handle a fast-paced environment, multiple projects, and tight deadlines

\n

Effective informal and formal negotiating skills

\n

Effective demonstrable oral, written, and listening skills

\n

Excellent analytical and judgment skills, as demonstrated by the ability to assess information and evidence and act strategically

\n

Excellent organizational and prioritizing skills, showing flexibility as needed; adept at dealing with conflicting/changing priorities

\n

Effective at facilitating and organizing meetings

\n

Working knowledge of or ability to learn computer programs, including Word, e-mail, accessing the internet, and databases

\n

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

\n

Willingness to work long and irregular hours and participate in all union-wide activities

\n

By date of hire, you must possess a valid California driver's license, auto insurance, and an American Union-built automobile for business use

\n

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

\n

Annual salary is $202,758.40 plus car allowance

\n

Fully paid benefits package, including health, dental, and vision

\n

Fully paid pension and annuity, plus optional employee contribution to 401K

\n
