Job DescriptionJob Description: Trailer Maintenance Shop Mechanic

Reports To: Shop Supervisor/ Fleet Manager
Position OverviewThe Trailer Maintenance Shop Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, servicing, and repairing commercial semi-trailers and heavy-duty transport equipment. The primary focus isto ensure the trailer remains safe, highly reliable, and fully compliant with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Highway Administration(FHWA) regulations.
Core Responsibilities
- Preventative Maintenance {PM): Perform routine safety checks, scheduled maintenance, and lubing on brakes, suspension, axles, and landing gear systems.
- Diagnostics& Repair: Troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, lighting systems, ABS brakes, air lines, and hydraulic components.
- Structural & Body Work: Repair or replace damaged flooring, rub rails, aluminum body panels, roofs, and doors using welding and fabrication equipment (MIG/Stick).
- Compliance & Safety: Conduct comprehensive DOT inspections and document all findings, parts used, and repair hours accurately within the shop management system.
- Shop Cleanliness: Maintain a safe, clean, and organized workspace, adhering strictly to OSHA and company safety guidelines.
Key Qualifications& Requirements
- Experience: 1 to 5+ years of hands-on mechanical experience working on heavy-duty commercial trailers, medium/heavy trucks, or equivalent vocational training.
- Technical Skills: Strong proficiency using hand tools, power tools, jacks, torches, and welding/cutting equipment. Ability to read electrical and air system schematics.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50- 75 lbs regularly, bend, kneel, crawl, and stand for extended periods
