Job Summary

Translates between English and the designated foreign language general, technical, educational materials and other documents, and provides oral interpretations during formal meetings before the Governing School Board and other District, school, disciplinary and community meetings. Employees in this classification are directly responsible to the Director of Special Education. Provides for communication between the Governing School Board, District and community to facilitate increased collaboration between all parties.

4hrs per day/5 days per week/12 months per year

This position is located in our Special Education Department at the District office.

Requirements / Qualifications

You must have passed the District Translator test to apply for this position.

Ability to listen in English and speak in the designated language simultaneously.

Read and write effectively in idiomatic English and the designated foreign language.

Work without technical supervision takes responsibility for accuracy of translation, while prioritizing the workflow.

Speak in a clear articulate manner at public meetings.

Knowledge of office methods and equipment, English and Spanish usage, vocabulary, grammar, spelling and punctuation.

A minimum of two years translating/interpreting experience in public education environment preferred.

Ability to type at a speed of 45 words per minute from a clear copy, and translate 3000+ words per day.

Ability to establish and maintain a cooperative working relationship with others.

Personal computer and software application experience is required.

Possess a high school diploma or General Education Diploma.

Associates Degree or higher preferred indicating specialized training or experience in Spanish.
