- Strong mechanical aptitude, critical thinking, and attention to detail
FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Precision Mechanical Assembler to fabricate, fit, finish, assemble, and adjust small precision components according to technical drawings and specifications. This hands-on role involves working with sheet metal, stampings, machined components, hand and power tools, precision measuring equipment, and a variety of fabrication and finishing processes. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience working with small components, the ability to interpret detailed blueprints and tolerances, and excellent attention to detail in a precision manufacturing environment.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Fabricating small precision parts according to technical drawing specifications
- Fitting, finishing, assembling, and adjusting components and assemblies
- Reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings, including material alloys, dimensions, finishes, tolerances, and special callouts
- Maintaining blueprint tolerances typically ranging from .005" to .030"
- Applying basic machining layout techniques, including scribing dimensions
- Using dial calipers, machinist's squares, micrometers, 1-2-3 and/or 2-4-6 blocks, tape measures, granite surface plates, and dial indicators
- Cutting steel and aluminum using bandsaws, cold saws, shears, and related equipment
- Deburring, filing, sanding, polishing, and tumbling components
- Using hydraulic and arbor presses for straightening sheet metal and press-fitting pins
- Operating pneumatic tools including ultrasonic filers, air nozzles, and air-operated presses
- Operating electric tools including drill presses, hand drills, belt sanders, pedestal grinders, wire wheels, hone tools, and electric torque drivers
- Using hand tools including ball peen hammers, wrenches, scribes, chisels, screwdrivers, mallets, and pliers
- Lubricating tools and components using specified greases and oils
- Drilling, tapping, and chasing threads
- Performing detailed assembly work on small components for extended periods
- Inspecting completed parts and assemblies for dimensional accuracy and workmanship
- Maintaining clean, organized equipment and work areas
- Applying critical thinking and mechanical problem-solving skills to varied assembly requirements
- Supporting ERP-based production transactions as needed
- Moving materials and components throughout production areas
- Using lifting equipment and forklifts as trained and authorized
- Packaging and boxing finished items for shipment
- Including required paperwork and certifications with completed shipments
- Following proper lifting, manufacturing, quality, and safety procedures
- Performing other duties as assigned
The selected candidate will also possess:
- Precision mechanical assembly or related manufacturing experience preferred
- Electronics or electromechanical manufacturing assembly experience required
- Experience working with small components, stampings, and sheet metal required
- Experience using hand tools required
- Soldering experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings required
- Understanding of dimensions, tolerances, finishes, material specifications, and special callouts required
- Experience using precision measuring equipment such as calipers and micrometers preferred
- Basic machining layout knowledge preferred
- Experience with metal fabrication, deburring, sanding, polishing, drilling, tapping, or related processes preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude required
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills required
- Excellent attention to detail required
- Ability to perform precise work on small components for extended periods
- ERP or manufacturing software experience a plus
- Ability to work independently and as part of a manufacturing team
- Ability to maintain an organized and clean work area
- Ability to work onsite in Vista, CA
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods while performing precision assembly and fabrication work
- Ability to maintain visual focus on small components and detailed work for extended periods
- Ability to use hands and fingers for precision assembly, measuring, soldering, drilling, tapping, filing, sanding, and tool operation
- Ability to frequently grasp, reach, bend, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements
- Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 49 pounds independently using proper lifting techniques
- Ability to use lifting equipment or obtain assistance for items weighing more than 49 pounds
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, presses, measuring equipment, and related manufacturing equipment safely
- Ability to work around sheet metal, machined components, fabrication equipment, oils, greases, and production materials
- Ability to visually inspect parts, assemblies, blueprints, measurements, and finished work for accuracy and quality
- Ability to wear required PPE and follow all applicable manufacturing, quality, equipment, and safety procedures
- Ability to maintain precision, focus, and attention to detail throughout the workday
Salary Range: $24 to $32/hour
