PATIENT ACCOUNT REPRESENTATIVE/PHYSICIAN BILLING SPECIALIST


Job Title: Patient Account Representative / Physician Billing Specialist

Location: South County / Santa Clara County, CA (100% Onsite)

Compensation: $70,000 – $80,000 / year

Employment Type: Full-Time (Multiple Openings Available)


Position Summary

Option 1 Staffing is currently recruiting for a dedicated and detail-oriented Patient Account Representatives for full-time, onsite positions in South Santa Clara County. In this role, you will manage full-cycle physician and hospital billing, research and resolve claim denials, submit appeals, post payments, and interface directly with third-party payers and patients to ensure timely account resolution.


Key Responsibilities

  • Denials Management & Appeals: Investigate denied claims, determine root causes, draft and submit formal insurance appeals, and follow up directly with payers to secure reimbursement.
  • Claims Processing & Resolution: Scrub, bill, and process claims using hospital claims scrubber tools and billing systems; resolve claim edits and errors to prevent billing delays.
  • Payment Posting & Cash Reconciliation: Post daily cash receipts and adjustments for hospital and professional billing; balance undistributed payments and perform routine cash reconciliations.
  • Credit Balances & Refunds: Audit self-pay accounts with credit balances, verify accuracy, and process timely patient refunds.
  • Payer & Patient Inquiries: Handle phone and written correspondence regarding billing questions, verify coverage and contractual terms, and process patient payments.


Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of medical billing, claims follow-up, or patient accounting experience within a hospital, physician group, or healthcare facility setting.
  • Insurance Knowledge: Solid understanding of claim follow-up, appeal writing, and regulations across Medicare, Medi-Cal, HMO, PPO, and commercial third-party payers.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); hands-on experience with Epic or hospital billing/scrubber software is strongly preferred.
  • Core Competencies: Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and time-management skills with the ability to manage high-volume workflows accurately.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
