The Patient Services Representative supports orthopedic surgeons and patients throughout the surgical care process, with a primary focus on workers’ compensation cases. This role coordinates scheduling, insurance verification, authorizations, referrals, and pre- and post-operative needs while serving as a key liaison among patients, physicians, clinical teams, billing, adjusters, and case managers.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate workers’ compensation scheduling for orthopedic surgery, including pre-operative and post-operative appointments.
- Verify insurance, obtain surgical authorizations, and coordinate required health clearances and pre-operative studies.
- Schedule clinical staff, operating room time, special equipment, and other procedural arrangements.
- Review surgery and procedure information with patients as directed by orthopedic surgeons and facilitate appropriate education classes.
- Serve as the primary patient contact and liaison among patients, physicians, internal departments, external providers, adjusters, and case managers.
- Respond to patient inquiries and complaints, provide service recovery when appropriate, and escalate issues as needed.
- Complete physician referrals, manage referral work queues, and handle correspondence, forms, authorization requests, calendar needs, and transcription tasks.
- Prepare charts, update demographic and insurance information, support billing audits, and ensure surgical reports and charges are submitted.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least 2 years of experience in workers’ compensation claims administration.
- Experience with workers’ compensation claims, insurance verification, medical scheduling, referral management, and surgical authorizations.
- Experience with Epic EMR.
- Flu vaccination required; declinations and exemptions are not accepted.
