Shift: 10-Hour Days (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
Duration: 18 Weeks
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced RN First Assist. You will play a vital role throughout the perioperative process, collaborating closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and operating room staff to ensure optimal patient outcomes. This role requires advanced surgical expertise, strong clinical judgment, and a commitment to excellence in patient care.
Key Responsibilities

Function as First Assistant during surgical procedures

Assist with surgical incision, excision, exposure, and tissue repair

Handle and dissect tissues in collaboration with surgeons
-
Clamp vessels, control bleeding, place drains, and assist with wound closure
-
Perform circulating and scrub duties as needed
-
Maintain strict aseptic technique and sterile field integrity
-
Assist with patient positioning, prepping, draping, and transfers
-
Conduct accurate instrument, sponge, and sharps counts
-
Document patient care and surgical interventions appropriately
-
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize surgical outcomes

Mentor and support perioperative staff members

Call Expectations

Minimum one weekday call shift per week extending until 11:00 PM

Minimum one continuous weekend call assignment (Friday through Monday 6:30 AM) every six-week scheduling period

Required QualificationsEducation

Completion of an RNFA Program meeting AORN standards
Licensure & Certifications

Active California RN License
-
CNOR Certification (Required)

BLS Certification

ACLS Certification
Preferred Qualifications

CRNFA Certification

PALS or PEARS Certification

AORN Membership
-
Minimum two years of perioperative nursing experience
