Job Description

Job DescriptionBiomedical Field Service Technician — Hospital Devices

At STERIS, we help our Customers create a healthier and safer world by providing innovative healthcare and life science product and service solutions around the globe.

A day in this role

You start your morning reviewing a flexible route plan—preventive maintenance at one hospital, a warranty call at another, then an afternoon installation. You walk through clinical areas with confidence, diagnose issues on STERIS and competitor equipment, and bring devices back online so clinicians can focus on patients. Throughout the day, you document work in mobile apps, capture compliance records, and connect with Tech Support, Engineering, and Service Contract Management to resolve complex issues. Before you wrap, you brief Customers on repair options and pricing, and flag opportunities for the Sales team that could improve uptime and outcomes.

Where you’ll work

This is a remote, Customer-facing position serving hospitals and healthcare facilities. To support Customers in the assigned territory, you must reside in California.

What you will do

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain STERIS and competitor equipment, systems, and components in hospital environments.
  • Independently prioritize and schedule PMs, service and warranty calls, equipment installs, and field upgrades to meet Customer and business needs.
  • Use advanced digital tools to complete regulatory/compliance documentation and thoroughly record troubleshooting steps and outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Tech Support, Engineering, Service Contract Management) to escalate and resolve complex issues.
  • Present Customers with information, pricing, and repair choices; nurture relationships with Sales and learn to identify territory sales opportunities.
  • Support multiple sites within the territory according to service agreements and Customer demand.

Who thrives here

People with hands-on backgrounds such as HVAC, mechanics, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers/chillers, equipment repair, diesel/automotive, aviation repair, plumbing, or electrical often excel.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and 4+ years of work experience, including 2+ years in a mechanical/technical role. An associate degree, relevant certifications, competitive equipment training, or related military experience may count toward the technical requirement.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet all required background and physical assessment elements to obtain and maintain existing and new vendor credentialing requirements.
  • Experience engaging with Customers and collaborating with teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Windows/email, navigation, mobile apps, data entry across multiple systems).
  • Flexibility for potential overnights and early/late hours based on Customer and business needs.
