Girl Scouts San Diego is seeking a strategic, hands-on, and highly trusted Director of Human Resources to lead the organization’s people strategy and help shape a thriving, high-performing workplace culture.

As a member of the senior leadership team, the Director of Human Resources will serve as a trusted advisor to organizational leaders and a champion for employees. You will help shape long-term talent and culture strategies while ensuring excellence across recruitment, employee relations, performance management, learning and development, compensation and benefits, compliance, and HR operations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Partner with senior leadership to develop and execute people strategies that advance organizational priorities and foster a high-performing, inclusive, and values-driven culture.
  • Translate organizational goals into practical HR strategies, programs, and initiatives that strengthen the employee experience and organizational performance.
  • Provide leadership and oversight for day-to-day HR operations, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and HR systems.
  • Develop and execute workforce planning, recruitment, retention, and succession strategies to attract and retain exceptional talent.
  • Design and implement HR policies, programs, and processes that are equitable, effective, and aligned with organizational needs.
  • Oversee compensation and benefits programs to promote competitiveness, internal equity, and responsible resource management.
  • Ensure HR systems, processes, and reporting support efficient, data-informed decision-making.
  • Oversee employee relations and provide expert guidance on workplace concerns, investigations, performance issues, and other sensitive matters.
  • Promote fair, timely, consistent, and thoughtful resolution of workplace issues.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
  • Exercise exceptional discretion, judgment, and confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and organizational matters.
  • Lead, develop, and empower the HR team through clear expectations, coaching, collaboration, and professional development.
  • Manage the HR budget and resources with a focus on organizational impact, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Establish priorities and systems that enable the HR function to be proactive, responsive, and strategic.



We’re looking for an experienced HR leader who combines strategic perspective with strong execution skills and brings credibility, emotional intelligence, and sound judgment to every interaction.

Required qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Organizational Development, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, with nonprofit experience strongly preferred.
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing HR strategies that align people, culture, and organizational priorities.
  • Strong expertise in employee relations, talent management, organizational development, performance management, and HR operations.
  • Proven ability to build trust and establish effective partnerships with executives, managers, and employees at all levels.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, coaching, and consultative skills.
  • Exceptional discretion and sound judgment in handling confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance strategic priorities and day-to-day demands.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with HRIS and ATS platforms preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as needed.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Girl Scouting, including adherence to the Girl Scout Promise and Law.

This role is ideal for a seasoned HR professional who is equally comfortable setting strategy, coaching leaders, solving complex people challenges, and rolling up their sleeves to get things done.

Hiring Salary Range: $115,000-$130,000, DOE
