About the Opportunity
Professional Search Group has partnered with a rapidly growing, private equity-backed organization to identify an experienced Controller. This individual will oversee the accounting close, financial reporting, cash management, and internal controls for a multi-location operation.
The Controller will lead a team that includes an Assistant Controller and an Accounting Manager, and will serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors, lender reporting requests, and the financial integration of newly acquired locations.
Key Responsibilities
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate consolidated financial statements across all locations.
• Lead technical accounting, GAAP compliance, and financial reporting for the private equity sponsor and lenders.
• Manage the annual Big 4 financial statement audit, including PBC schedules, technical accounting memos, and auditor relationships.
• Design, implement, and monitor internal controls across a growing, decentralized operating environment.
• Lead the accounting integration of newly acquired locations, including opening balance sheets, purchase accounting, earnout schedules and payments, and systems and process conversions.
• Manage, mentor, and develop the Assistant Controller and Accounting Manager.
• Build scalable accounting processes and expand team capabilities to support continued growth and acquisition activity.
• Partner with FP&A and operational leaders to establish consistent financial reporting across all locations.
• Maintain the integrity of balance sheet reconciliations, revenue recognition, and inventory and cost-of-goods-sold accounting.
• Identify and implement automation opportunities within the close, reconciliation, and financial reporting processes.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• CPA preferred.
• Previous experience within a private equity-backed portfolio company, including direct exposure to sponsor reporting requirements.
• Experience supporting a multi-location is a huge plus
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, and accounting operations.
• Proven experience leading and developing accounting professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience managing a Big 4 audit, either through public accounting or as the primary client contact.
• Strong commitment to internal controls, operational compliance, and process discipline.
• Experience supporting a rapidly growing or acquisition-focused organization.
• M&A, transaction accounting, or post-acquisition integration experience.
• Experience implementing automation or AI tools within accounting or finance.
