The Infant-Toddler Assistant Teacher / Infant-Toddler Aide, under the guidance of the Infant-Toddler Teacher and the Director (Executive Director), aids in the cognitive and social development of children under the age of 2 years old. Working with children from 6 weeks to 24 months, the Infant-Toddler Assistant Teacher / Infant-Toddler Aide must teach the most basic social skills focusing on play-centered learning and creativity; along with the Infant-Toddler Teacher, provides a safe and nurturing learning environment for infants and toddlers, and uses age-appropriate teaching and learning strategies to create an environment that promotes early learning as well as positive social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reports to the assigned schedule on time.
  • Support and implement curriculum that meets the emotional, cognitive, physical, and social needs of the infants/toddlers in his/her class.
  • Brings to the attention of the Infant-Toddler Teacher and/or the Director any physical or mental development concerns.
  • Supervises and cares for infants/toddlers, including bottle feeding, diaper changes and meal preparation.
  • Performs diaper changes and ensures changing tables are clean at all times.
  • Maintains meal, nap, and diaper changes logs.
  • Foster a positive and supportive learning atmosphere.
  • Ensures, supports, and enforces safety for all children including parents, teachers, and staff.
  • Supports and implements daily schedules, tasks, routines, and activities as directed by the Director. If breakdown in schedules, routines, tasks, activities, and/or procedures occurs, is responsible for filling in until he/she is able to meet with appropriate staff members to correct these.
  • Speaks and listens to parents with respect.
  • Maintains legal ratios as directed by the Director.
  • Reports all issues and concerns with students and parents to the Director.
  • Completes all required training (e.g. safety) assigned by the Director and/or HR.
  • Participates in collaboration meetings and in professional development activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Infant-Toddler Teacher and/or the Director.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Preferred but not required: Has completed or is in process of completing 12 ECE/Childhood Development core units including 3 units in ECE/CD related to the care of infants and toddlers (e.g. completed units in Infant/Toddler Development).
  • Preferred but not required: In the absence of the 12 units, must be currently enrolled towards completion of the required units plus the 3 units required related to the care of infants and toddlers.
  • Preferred but not required: 1-3 years of experience working with infants and toddlers in educational setting, or a combination of education and relevant pre-school teaching experience
  • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices; able to develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; patient, kind, creative, organized, enthusiastic, and energetic.
  • Must complete the following required training: Mandated Reporter, Sexual Harassment Prevention, Food Handling, CPR and First Aid, Pest Management
  • Must be able to bend, lift, and reach (reasonable accommodation may be provided)
  • Must pass background/fingerprint clearances including reference checks
  • Clear health screening and TB Test results
