Job Description

Job Description

About the Role

Burton Design & Construction, LLC (BDC) is seeking an experienced Residential Construction Site Supervisor to oversee daily field activities and help deliver exceptional residential projects.

As BDC’s eyes and ears in the field, you will coordinate subcontractors and company crews, monitor progress, enforce site safety and cleanliness, and hold work to our quality standards. Quality is a central responsibility of this position. You must recognize when work is right, identify when it is not, ask informed questions, and follow through until issues are resolved.

The ideal candidate brings substantial hands-on residential construction experience, a deep understanding of the trades, and strong knowledge of construction sequencing—from site preparation and foundations through finishes and project completion. Experience with traditional site-built construction is required; modular and panelized construction experience is preferred.

What You’ll Do

Working closely with our Project Managers, you will translate project plans and schedules into organized daily field execution. You will establish clear expectations, verify workmanship, coordinate trade activities, anticipate problems, and keep the project team informed.

This is a field-based leadership position requiring consistent jobsite presence and active engagement with the work. The Project Manager maintains overall responsibility for project budgets, contracts, change orders, and client commitments; the Site Supervisor leads daily field coordination and promptly communicates issues affecting those responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Control & Workmanship

  • Set and reinforce clear expectations for craftsmanship, installation quality, and attention to detail.
  • Inspect work throughout construction for alignment with approved plans, specifications, manufacturer instructions, and BDC standards.
  • Identify deficiencies early, document required corrections and verify satisfactory completion.
  • Verify that required inspections and quality checks are complete before work is concealed or the next phase begins.
  • Pay particular attention to critical details such as waterproofing, flashing, building-envelope continuity, structural connections, rough-in coordination, and finish alignment.
  • Confirm that work areas are ready for the next trade and that preceding work is complete and acceptable.
  • · Maintain ongoing punch lists and drive timely correction rather than allowing deficiencies to accumulate at project closeout.
  • Protect completed work, finishes, materials, and adjacent property from damage.

Daily Site Leadership & Subcontractor Coordination

  • Coordinate daily activities of subcontractors and BDC field crews in partnership with the Project Manager.
  • Communicate daily priorities, work areas, sequencing requirements, and expected results.
  • Monitor subcontractor attendance, staffing, productivity, workmanship, and progress against assigned scopes.
  • Coordinate trade interfaces to reduce conflicts, interruptions, and rework.
  • Address field issues professionally and hold subcontractors accountable for correcting deficient or incomplete work.
  • Escalate recurring performance issues, scope disputes, and unresolved concerns to the Project Manager.
  • Maintain a professional, respectful, and accountable jobsite environment.

Construction Sequencing & Progress

  • Understand the full residential construction sequence and the dependencies between trades.
  • Work with the Project Manager to maintain practical short-term look-ahead plans.
  • Verify upcoming needs for labor, materials, equipment, inspections, approved details, and owner selections.
  • Identify potential delays and constraints early and recommend practical solutions.
  • Monitor actual field progress against the project schedule and communicate variances promptly.
  • Recognize potential changes or additional work and notify the Project Manager before work proceeds beyond approved scope.

Plans, Technical Coordination & Inspections

  • Read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing plans.
  • Confirm that field teams are working from current approved drawings and communicated revisions.
  • Identify discrepancies, missing information, and constructability concerns; coordinate clarification through the Project Manager.
  • Verify relevant field dimensions and existing conditions before affected work begins.
  • Coordinate inspection readiness with the project team and attend jurisdictional and third-party inspections.
  • Document inspection results and follow through on required corrections.
  • For modular and panelized projects, coordinate site readiness, delivery access, staging, installation activities, and connections between factory-built components and site-built work.

Site Safety, Cleanliness & Security

  • Enforce BDC safety policies, required protective equipment, and established jobsite rules.
  • Conduct and document site safety checks and required safety meetings.
  • Address unsafe conditions immediately, stop affected work when necessary, and notify the appropriate project or safety personnel.
  • Maintain clear access routes, orderly material storage, debris removal, and clean work areas.
  • Coordinate site logistics, deliveries, parking, fencing, signage, sanitation, and emergency access.
  • Verify end-of-day site security and protection of tools, materials, and completed work.
  • Promptly report incidents, near misses, property damage, and unauthorized site activity.

Materials, Documentation & Communication

  • Coordinate deliveries and verify received materials for quantity, condition, and consistency with the order.
  • Identify shortages, damage, or incorrect materials promptly and coordinate resolution.
  • Maintain accurate daily field records, including progress, site attendance, deliveries, inspections, issues, and photographs.
  • Document critical work before it is covered.
  • Provide clear, timely updates to the Project Manager on quality, safety, schedule, and subcontractor performance.
  • Use Buildertrend and other company tools to maintain accessible and organized project information.
  • Represent BDC professionally with clients, neighbors, inspectors, and trade partners, coordinating commitments through the Project Manager.

Core Competencies

  • Strong construction judgment supported by hands-on building experience.
  • High standards for quality and craftsmanship.
  • Ownership, accountability, and consistent follow-through.
  • Ability to recognize problems early and ask the right questions.
  • Confident, respectful leadership of subcontractors and field crews.
  • Proactive planning and practical problem-solving.
  • Clear communication and accurate documentation.
  • Strong organization and ability to manage competing field priorities.
  • Commitment to safety, teamwork, and protecting BDC’s reputation.

Position Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible residential construction experience, including substantial hands-on trade experience.
  • 3+ years leading field crews, subcontractors, or residential jobsites as a Site Supervisor, Superintendent, Foreman, or similar role.
  • Experience with ground-up residential construction and significant remodels; high-end custom residential experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of sitework, foundations, framing, roofing, waterproofing, exterior assemblies, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, insulation, drywall, and finish trades.
  • Demonstrated understanding of construction sequencing, trade dependencies, and inspection milestones.
  • Ability to read construction drawings, specifications, and installation requirements.
  • Proven ability to identify workmanship deficiencies and drive corrective action.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building requirements and construction safety practices.
  • Ability to use construction management software; Buildertrend experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools, including Outlook and Teams, and comfort documenting work using a smartphone or tablet.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between assigned jobsites.
  • Ability to perform essential jobsite duties, including walking uneven terrain, using stairs and ladders, and accessing active construction areas, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modular and panelized construction, including installation coordination and integration with site-built work.
  • OSHA 10 & 30 construction training.
  • Current first aid and CPR certification.
  • English/Spanish bilingual communication skills.

What Success Looks Like

  • Work consistently meets BDC’s quality standards, with deficiencies identified and corrected early.
  • Required quality checks and inspections occur before work is covered or subsequent work begins.
  • Subcontractors understand expectations and complete work in the proper sequence.
  • Upcoming constraints are identified early enough for the project team to respond.
  • Jobsites remain safe, clean, organized, and secure.
