Compensation: $140,000 base + 15% to 20% annual bonus, paid quarterly
Title: Global Head of People
Type: Full‑time
The Opportunity:
There are 3.7 million construction companies in America, and most of them can't figure out how to hire. We built the answer. The Contractor Consultants designs and runs hiring systems for construction businesses, and we've grown faster than almost anyone in our space: recognized by the U.S. Congress, winners of multiple industry awards, and on track to support more than 1,500 clients in 2026.
We've gone from a handful of people to a fully remote team of 100+, and our next stage depends on one thing: the quality of our people.
As our first Head of People, reporting to the CEO, you'll help design how TCC hires, grows and keeps great people at every level. Year one is hands-on: you'll own HR yourself while building the systems, the team and the talent strategy that take us to our next stage.
If you want a real seat at the leadership table of a company on a real growth curve, and you're happy to roll up your sleeves to build it, this is the role.
The company is ready to evolve from using a fractional HR manager to bringing in a full-time individual looking to improve what we already have while building the strategy and foundation, not just for tomorrow, but for the longer-term future.
What You'll Own:
HR, hands-on from day one
- Multi-state HR compliance for our US employees, and classification and compliance for our US and international contractors.
- Employee relations: investigations, performance and conduct issues, accommodations, and knowing when to bring in counsel.
- Onboarding and offboarding by role and state, payroll and benefits accuracy, and HR system administration.
- Turning an in-flight HR audit into a clear plan and closing it out.
- Our handbook, core policies and SOPs that people actually follow.
People strategy, shaped with the leadership team
- Hiring: design how we hire leaders and own corporate and leadership hiring end to end. Set the standard every other hiring funnel in the company follows.
- Talent: shape how we define, rate and grow talent. Partner with leadership on our A, B and C player framework and quarterly calibrations, and make them the standard across the company.
- Pay: build and benchmark levels and pay bands, and bring recommendations to leadership.
- Growth planning: help leadership decide which roles we need, and when, as we scale.
- Managers and retention: coach our leaders to handle people issues themselves and keep our best people.
What We Need
- 8+ years in HR, including at least 3 as the senior-most people leader at a company of roughly 40 to 200 employees.
- Hands-on depth: multi-state compliance, employee relations, onboarding and offboarding, HR systems and payroll.
- You've built HR from an early stage, not just maintained what was already there.
- You've led hiring for senior roles with structured interviews and scorecards.
- Experience with remote, multi-state teams and contractor classification.
- Clear, direct communication. You explain legal risk in plain English and tell leadership the hard truth.
What Gives You the Edge
- California, New York, and Illinois employment law experience.
- Staffing, recruiting, agency or professional services background.
- You've built levels, pay bands or a calibration process before.
- International contractor experience, including EOR platforms such as Deel.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR or SPHR.
- You use AI tools every day.
Our Values
Truth over comfort: You say the true thing, kindly and directly.
Fix the system, not the symptom: You build processes, not one-off fixes.
Own the outcome: Your first question is what you missed.
Measure twice, cut once: You move fast without creating rework.
Compensation and Benefits
- $140,000 base plus a 15% to 20% annual performance bonus, paid quarterly.
- Medical, dental and vision.
- 100% remote, W-2, full-time.
- Direct access to the CEO and real authority to build the function.
