Job DescriptionWe are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to lead financial operations for a non-profit organization in San Diego, California. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate reporting, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring compliance with grant, contract, and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate brings strong leadership skills, deep accounting knowledge, and the ability to support sound financial decision-making across the organization.

Responsibilities:
• Direct the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to deliver timely and reliable financial reports.
• Oversee the daily performance, upkeep, and improvement of accounting systems to support efficient financial operations.
• Maintain the general ledger structure, chart of accounts, cost allocation methods, and fixed asset records in alignment with non-profit and regulatory standards.
• Design, implement, and monitor accounting policies and procedures that reinforce internal controls and proper separation of responsibilities.
• Review financial activity to confirm accuracy, proper documentation, and protection of organizational assets.
• Partner with external auditors and funding agencies by preparing schedules, records, and supporting materials for annual audits and grant or contract reviews.
• Ensure all required tax filings and government reports are completed accurately and submitted on schedule.
• Produce financial statements, cash flow analyses, budget-to-actual comparisons, aging reports, and other management reports as needed.
• Lead departmental planning, budgeting, and process improvements while supervising, developing, and retaining accounting staff.
• Build collaborative relationships across departments and with external partners, while keeping the team informed of evolving accounting standards and compliance requirements.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
• 6–8 years of progressive accounting or finance management experience.
• 4–6 years of experience working in a corporate, government, or similarly regulated environment.
• Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and fund accounting practices.
• Hands-on experience with month-end close, general ledger management, account reconciliations, journal entries, and grant accounting.
• Demonstrated ability to lead staff, assign priorities, monitor performance, and deliver results against deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with sound analytical, planning, and time management abilities.
• Proficiency with financial and business systems such as ERP platforms, reporting tools, or applications including Salesforce and similar software.
