Job DescriptionStaff Accountant

Location: Santa Rosa, CA (100% onsite)

About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining impeccable financial records, preparing statements, and managing accounts payable in strict compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.

Beyond core accounting, you will be a vital cross-functional partner, serving as a strategic backup for the team. If you have a passion for the wine industry and a knack for process improvement, we want to hear from you.

Primary ResponsibilitiesGeneral Accounting & Financial Support

  • Asset Management: Record and maintain fixed asset transactions, including monthly depreciation and supporting schedules within NetSuite.

  • Industry Billing: Prepare specialized invoices for custom crush, grape, and bulk wine transactions.

  • Compliance: Prepare and file sales tax, CRV, and property tax returns.

  • Ledger Oversight: Maintain accurate records across AP, AR, bank deposits, and the general ledger.

  • Reconciliations: Reconcile ERP account balances with external sources and manage amortization/adjustment schedules.

  • Closing Duties: Support month and year-end close activities, including journal entries and bulk wine costing.

  • Contract Review: Review grape weighmaster certificates and grower case activity to ensure full contract compliance.

  • Reporting: Produce ad hoc analyses and management reports to support business decisions.

Accounts Payable & Transactional Support

  • Vendor Management: Oversee invoice processing for accuracy, coding consistency, and timely payment.

  • Collaboration: Work with cost center managers to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate expense allocation.

  • Expense Management: Process employee T&E reimbursements and corporate card expenses; import and reconcile transactions.

  • Tax Compliance: Support annual 1099 preparation and related reporting.

  • Communication: Articulate and transparent communicator across all media; able to present data clearly to various stakeholders.

Job Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

  • Experience: 2+ years of related accounting experience or training.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Strong Excel skills preferred). Working knowledge of ERP systems.

  • Discretion: Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with tact.

  • Physical/Logistical: Flexibility to work weekends/off-hours when necessary. Ability to lift and carry at least 50 lbs. (approx. one 9L case of wine).

  • Industry Passion: A basic knowledge and appreciation of fine wines with a commitment to ongoing learning.
