The Role
We're seeking an organized, caring, and discreet Registered Nurse to help manage student health services in a warm, hands-on school environment. You'll administer medications and first aid, maintain health records, and partner closely with staff and families in this shared school nurse role. This position requires clear, professional written and verbal communication and a genuine commitment to student wellbeing.
Schedule: Part-time, 2–3 days/week; school holidays off; paid sick time
Pay: $40–$45/hour, commensurate with experience; paid only for hours worked
Key Responsibilities
● Administer first aid and medications (including insulin, inhalers, nasal spray, oral/injected meds) per RN licensure and school policy
● Exercise sound, independent nursing assessment and clinical judgment when evaluating student symptoms, injuries, and emergencies, and determine appropriate next steps
● Maintain accurate, timely electronic health records (August Schools EMR)
● Communicate proactively and professionally with parents and staff regarding student health, in writing and by phone
● Ability to understand and consistently apply the most up-to-date state and local rules, regulations, policies and procedures
● Serve as the leader on the school's emergency/first aid response team
● Process and track annual student health forms, immunizations, and screenings; follow up with families as needed to ensure compliance before the school year starts
● Maintain staff TB records and coordinate annual CPR/first aid training
● Collaborate with the part-time nurse, teachers, and administration on wellness initiatives and student-specific health needs
● Order and manage health office and emergency supplies; keep the health office presentable and organized
● Maintain confidentiality of all health information
Qualifications
● Required: Valid CA RN license; Associate's degree in Nursing (Bachelor's preferred); current AHA First Aid/CPR/AED certification
● Required: Minimum 2 years' experience in a relevant medical field
● Required: Proficiency with Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Zoom, and willingness to learn our EMR system, August Schools
● Strongly preferred: Prior experience working with children, ideally in a school or pediatric setting
● Excellent organizational skills, sound judgment, and the discretion to handle sensitive situations with care
● Ability to prioritize and balance various duties assigned
● Demonstrate strong communication skills, you'll be conversing and corresponding with parents regularly, so clarity and professionalism verbally and in writing matter
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse school community
