Role Description The Teaching Artist is a part-time, on-site role based in Vacaville, CA. Responsible delivering engaging arts instruction to children, teens, and adults. Tasks include designing lesson plans, preparing materials, leading classes and workshops, and adapting instruction to meet a range of skill levels and learning styles. The Teaching Artist will create a supportive, safe classroom environment, provide constructive feedback to participants, and encourage creative exploration and collaboration. Additional responsibilities include maintaining classroom spaces, communicating with caregivers and program staff, documenting student progress, and contributing to special events and exhibitions. The role involves working closely with the Joyful Art Center team to align curriculum with program goals and uphold the center’s commitment to inclusive, high-quality arts education.

Qualifications

- Demonstrated experience in visual arts, with a strong personal practice and the ability to translate artistic skills into effective teaching.
- Background in arts education, youth development, or community programming, including creating lesson plans and facilitating group learning.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with learners of diverse ages and backgrounds.
- Commitment to inclusive, culturally responsive teaching practices and the ability to support students with different learning needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, follow organizational guidelines, and contribute positively to a team environment.
- Organizational and time-management skills for balancing multiple classes, preparing materials, and meeting program deadlines.
- Comfort with basic technology used in instruction, scheduling, and communication; experience with digital arts tools is a plus.
- Previous experience teaching in community centers, schools, or similar settings is strongly preferred.
- Relevant education or training in art, arts education, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
