Powerstaff is exclusively partnering with a growing Northern California electrical contractor to hire an Electrical Estimating Manager. Founded in 2006, the business has around 100 staff across the US and offshore, with a clear focus on retail and restaurant work. They deliver a mix of tenant improvement and ground-up projects, with tenant improvement making up the larger share.
Work runs across Sacramento, Fresno and the Bay Area, with expansion into Arizona planned.
YOUR NEXT ROLE
This is a key leadership position at the centre of the business. You’ll take full ownership of bid review, which currently sits across the Lead Estimator, the Director of Operations and the CEO, and become the single point of accountability for estimating quality and output.
You’ll lead a team of 8 estimators based in Southeast Asia and working US hours, with the Lead Estimator reporting directly to you. The team is set to grow to around 15 in the coming months, so you’ll have a real hand in shaping how it scales. You’ll report to a Director of Operations with more than 7 years in electrical estimating and over 5 years leading teams, so you’ll have genuine technical backing. You’ll also be one of the first leaders to put the new AI estimating tool to work, helping embed it into daily workflows as it launches.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing, reviewing and signing off electrical estimates for restaurant, retail and commercial projects, both tenant improvement and ground-up
- Owning final bid review, ensuring accuracy, consistency and competitive pricing before submission
- Leading, coaching and mentoring the estimating team, with a focus on developing junior estimators
- Managing team workload, the bid calendar and deadlines so every opportunity goes out on time
- Owning the estimating systems and processes, including adoption of the new AI tool alongside PlanSwift and McCormick
- Building strong relationships with general contractors across the Sacramento, Fresno and Bay Area markets
- Supporting the business as it grows its team and expands into Arizona
ARE YOU A FIT?
You’ll ideally bring:
- 5+ years of hands-on electrical estimating experience with strong technical depth
- 3+ years leading or mentoring or leading a team of estimators
- Experience in restaurant, retail or hospitality projects (preferred)
- Confidence using estimating software such as PlanSwift and McCormick, or similar platforms
- Practical AI proficiency, or a genuine willingness to adopt new technology and help others do the same
- An established network of general contractors and subcontractors in California (a plus but not essential)
- Availability to work California business hours

WHAT’S ON OFFER
- Base salary of $140,000 to $175,000, depending on experience
- Medical, dental and vision cover
- Six US federal paid holidays
- Possible vehicle allowance
- Mostly remote, open to candidates anywhere in the US who can work California hours, with occasional paid travel to the Northern California office
- A fully remote hiring process, with interviews held by video
