Company Description Red Rock Volleyball Club is a competitive indoor and beach volleyball program for girls and boys in the San Francisco Bay Area, with teams from 11u through 18u. The club competes in USAV and AAU national events as well as regional tournaments, offering experiences that range from developmental to highly competitive. Red Rock is committed to providing a high-quality volleyball environment where each player can reach their full potential, both athletically and personally. The club operates across multiple locations, including Brisbane, Redwood City, Walnut Creek, San Francisco, Alameda, Martinez, Pleasanton, and Campbell, creating broad opportunities for coaches and athletes to engage in a vibrant volleyball community.

Role Description The Assistant Coach is a part-time, on-site role based in San Mateo, CA. This role supports the Head Coach in planning and running practices, teaching fundamental and advanced volleyball skills, and ensuring safe, age-appropriate training sessions. The Assistant Coach helps manage game-day logistics, including warm-ups, lineups, and in-match adjustments, while fostering positive communication with athletes and families. Daily responsibilities include providing individual feedback to players, assisting with player development plans, supporting team culture and sportsmanship, and coordinating with club staff on schedules, tournaments, and administrative requirements.

What You’ll Do\n

  • Work closely with and learn from the Head Coach
  • \n

  • Assist in running high-quality, competitive practices
  • \n

  • Teach and reinforce volleyball fundamentals, technique, and team systems
  • \n

  • Provide individual feedback and instruction to athletes
  • \n

  • Help with practice planning, drills, and team organization
  • \n

  • Coach and support the team during tournaments
  • \n

  • Help create a high-performance, positive, and competitive training environment
  • \n

  • Be actively involved in the development and culture of the program
  • \n

  • Previous volleyball playing and/or coaching experience
  • \n

  • Strong understanding of volleyball fundamentals
  • \n

  • Passion for coaching and athlete development
  • \n

  • Reliable, energetic, professional, and willing to learn

  • Someone who wants to develop coaching as a long-term career
  • \n

  • Someone willing to dedicate time and energy to becoming a better coach and helping build our program

  • Available for practices Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from approximately 5:30–7:30 PM
  • \n

  • Available for weekend tournaments throughout the club season
  • \n

  • Willing and able to travel for tournaments, including overnight and out-of-area events when required

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated volleyball coaching or playing experience, with strong knowledge of fundamental skills, game strategies, and player development.
  • \n

  • Ability to plan and execute structured practices, including drills, conditioning, and skill progression appropriate for youth athletes.
  • \n

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with athletes, families, and club staff in a collaborative team environment.
  • \n

  • Commitment to creating an inclusive, supportive, and safe environment that promotes sportsmanship, discipline, and respect.
  • \n

  • Organizational skills to manage schedules, tournament logistics, and administrative tasks while maintaining attention to detail.
  • \n

  • Ability to model professional behavior, including punctuality, reliability, and adherence to club policies and safety guidelines.
  • \n

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required by practices and tournaments.
  • \n

  • CPR/First Aid certification and familiarity with basic injury prevention are preferred.
  • \n

  • Previous experience coaching youth sports or working with young people is strongly beneficial.
