Description\n

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a float pool position at an academic medical center requiring advanced ECMO and mechanical circulatory support expertise.

  • Float pool position within ICU, with floating required to all TCUs, ICUs, ED, and PACU across UCSF facilities and departments
  • \n

  • Cardiovascular/cardiothoracic critical care patient population including ECMO, heart and lung transplant, and mechanical circulatory support cases
  • \n

  • Patient ratio of 1:2
  • \n

  • 12-hour Day/Night rotating shifts (7:00-19:30 or 19:00-7:30), with schedule cycles of 4 weeks that may alternate between shifts
  • \n

  • Epic charting system preferred
  • \n

  • Floating may occur to a facility within a 75+ mile radius depending on staffing needs
  • \n

Requirements\n

  • Active CA RN license required
  • \n

  • BSN required
  • \n

  • AHA BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS preferred
  • \n

  • Minimum 4 years of recent ICU experience required
  • \n

  • ECMO experience within the last 6 months to 1 year required, including bedside management as primary responsibility without dedicated perfusion support
  • \n

  • CVICU/CTICU/CCU experience required
  • \n

  • Trauma Level II experience required
  • \n

  • Teaching hospital/academic medical center experience preferred
  • \n

  • Travel nursing experience required, including a completed assignment within the past 12 months and no more than 1 year of travel experience in the past 5 years
  • \n

  • Strong skills in arterial line management, central line care, PICC line management, blood product administration, and IV therapy required
  • \n

  • Experience with VA ECMO, VV ECMO, V-PA ECMO, CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ventricular assist devices strongly preferred
  • \n

  • Experience with heart/lung transplant recovery, cardiogenic shock, and bridge to transplant care strongly preferred
  • \n

  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple mechanical support devices (e.g., ECMO + CRRT, ECMO + Impella) highly desirable
  • \n

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to independently manage complex critical care patients required
  • \n

  • Two references from most recent employer required for consideration
  • \n

  • Any prior employment history with University of California medical facilities or their acquired facilities must be disclosed for rehire eligibility review
  • \n

Additional Information\n

  • Provide advanced critical care nursing to complex ICU patients, including those on ECMO and multiple mechanical circulatory support devices
  • \n

  • Function within UCSF's Integrated Cardiovascular Care (ICC) model, with candidates assessed on broader cardiovascular critical care competency rather than ECMO experience alone
  • \n

  • Work as part of a high-acuity team supporting transplant, cardiothoracic surgery recovery, and multi-organ support therapies
  • \n

  • All requested time off must be disclosed and approved by the manager at time of offer; no additional RTO requests will be accepted mid-contract, and RTO may not fall within the first two weeks of the assignment
  • \n

  • Local candidates are accepted and receive the same pay rates as traveling candidates
  • \n

  • Travel pairs are permitted but will generally not be placed on the same unit; married couples may not work on the same unit
  • \n
