\n

Duration: 10+ weeks

\n

Start Date: ASAP

\n

Reports to: Founder & CEO

About Prox\n

Prox is building a better way for consumers to shop for groceries by making local pricing and savings dramatically more transparent.

\n

We're an early-stage consumer technology startup building tools that help shoppers compare grocery prices, discover local deals, and understand where their entire basket costs the least.

\n

As we grow, one of our most important priorities is building an exceptional team. We're looking for a Talent Acquisition & People Operations Intern to work directly with the Founder & CEO and help build the people side of Prox from the ground up.

\n

This is not a traditional HR internship focused on administrative work. You'll have meaningful ownership over how we identify, evaluate, recruit, onboard, and develop the people who join Prox.

What You'll Own\n

Your primary objective will be simple: help us find exceptional people and build a great company around them.

Talent Acquisition\n

You'll help manage the recruiting process from initial sourcing through offer, with an immediate focus on several critical hires:

\n

    \n
  • Technical Co-Founder / Head of Engineering
  • \n

  • Head of Marketing, with an emphasis on social media and consumer growth
  • \n

  • 1-2 specialized contractors
  • \n

  • Approximately 5-10 interns across engineering, marketing, product, and other functions
  • \n

\n

You'll:

\n

    \n
  • Proactively source high-quality candidates through LinkedIn, Handshake, YC Co-Founder Matching, university networks, professional communities, and other channels
  • \n

  • Develop creative sourcing strategies for difficult-to-fill positions
  • \n

  • Conduct personalized cold outreach to prospective candidates
  • \n

  • Review inbound applications and identify the strongest candidates
  • \n

  • Conduct first-round screening interviews
  • \n

  • Evaluate candidates for skills, motivation, communication, startup fit, and overall potential
  • \n

  • Recommend which candidates should advance to founder and team interviews
  • \n

  • Coordinate interviews, candidate communication, follow-ups, and offers
  • \n

  • Maintain an organized recruiting pipeline so promising candidates never fall through the cracks
  • \n

  • Improve job descriptions, outreach messages, interview questions, and candidate evaluation processes
  • \n

  • Track recruiting funnel performance and identify which sourcing channels produce the strongest candidates
  • \n

People Operations\n

Beyond recruiting, you'll help build the systems and culture that support the team once people join.

\n

This may include:

\n

    \n
  • Designing and improving new-hire onboarding and offboarding processes
  • \n

  • Maintaining organized team and internship records
  • \n

  • Helping create role expectations and internship workplans
  • \n

  • Tracking internship progress and performance
  • \n

  • Coordinating recurring check-ins
  • \n

  • Supporting employee and intern engagement initiatives
  • \n

  • Helping establish early company culture, norms, and operating practices
  • \n

  • Creating standardized interview scorecards and evaluation rubrics
  • \n

  • Developing university recruiting relationships
  • \n

  • Identifying ways to make Prox a place where ambitious people can do exceptional work
  • \n

Who We're Looking For\n

We care much more about initiative, judgment, and execution ability than a specific major.

\n

You should:

\n

    \n
  • Be currently enrolled in college or already hold a bachelor's degree
  • \n

  • Be highly responsive and reliable
  • \n

  • Be extremely organized and capable of managing several recruiting processes simultaneously
  • \n

  • Have strong interpersonal judgment and be able to quickly assess people
  • \n

  • Be comfortable reaching out to people you've never met
  • \n

  • Communicate professionally and persuasively
  • \n

  • Be energized by meeting talented people
  • \n

  • Be thoughtful about what makes someone successful in a role, not just whether their résumé checks boxes
  • \n

  • Have an entrepreneurial mindset and be comfortable operating with significant autonomy
  • \n

  • Be willing to experiment with unconventional ways of finding great candidates
  • \n

  • Be excited about working directly with a startup founder
  • \n

\n

Previous experience in recruiting, talent acquisition, HR, executive search, campus recruiting, or people operations is strongly preferred.

\n

Experience sourcing candidates through LinkedIn, Handshake, or similar platforms is a plus.

What Makes This Different\n

People are arguably the most important part of building a great company.

\n

At most internships, you join a recruiting process that was designed years before you arrived. At Prox, you'll help build that process yourself.

\n

You'll get exposure to everything from identifying a potential technical co-founder to interviewing candidates, evaluating talent, developing recruiting strategy, onboarding new team members, and helping shape the culture of an early-stage startup.

\n

You'll work directly with the Founder & CEO and have visibility into decisions that are normally handled by much more senior talent professionals.

\n

For someone interested in recruiting, people operations, startups, entrepreneurship, or eventually building a company of their own, this should be an unusually substantive experience.

Logistics\n

    \n
  • Start: ASAP
  • \n

  • Duration: 10+ weeks
  • \n

  • Commitment: 20+ hours per week
  • \n

  • Location: Remote
  • \n

  • Schedule: Flexible, but responsiveness and consistent availability are important
  • \n

  • Compensation: This is an unpaid internship however, exceptional performance and successful sourcing of particularly important hires may be recognized and compensated separately where appropriate.
  • \n

How to Apply\n

Send your résumé along with a short note to alston@joinprox.com answering these two questions (Not following this step will automatically result in not moving on in the process):

\n

    \n
  1. Why does this opportunity interest you?
  2. \n

  3. If you had to find five strong candidates for a Technical Co-Founder / Head of Engineering role at an early-stage startup within seven days, how would you approach it?
  4. \n

\n

We care more about the thoughtfulness of your answer than having a traditional HR background.
