Job DescriptionShape the skyline as our Principal Structural Engineer, Seismic Retrofit Lead

Picture your week: You start on Monday at our Sunland, CA 91041 office mapping out strategy with executive leadership, then step into the role of Engineer of Record on a complex retrofit. Midweek, you’re reviewing calculations, stamping plans in accordance with the California Building Code, and guiding engineers and drafters through peer reviews. By Friday, you’re on-site across Southern California, coordinating with local jurisdictions (including LADBS), validating field conditions, and ensuring every design meets the highest standard of structural integrity.

What you’ll lead

  • Serve as the Engineer of Record for advanced structural repair and retrofit projects.
  • Develop, analyze, and approve structural designs in full alignment with CBC and applicable local codes.
  • Own technical calculations, plan development, and final approvals to meet rigorous quality benchmarks.
  • Mentor and elevate a multidisciplinary team of engineers, drafters, and technical staff.
  • Partner closely with Production, Sales, and Executive teams to drive successful outcomes.
  • Conduct site observations and inspections; coordinate with permit authorities and streamline approvals (e.g., LADBS).
  • Advance internal standards, processes, and best practices for our engineering program.
  • Provide expert guidance in pre-construction and complex scoping efforts.

What you bring

  • Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Active California Structural Engineer (SE) license.
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible structural engineering experience.
  • Deep command of wood framing, concrete, steel, foundations, and retrofit systems.
  • Fluency with RAM, RISA, CAD, Revit, or comparable platforms.
  • Proven leadership mentoring and developing high-performing engineering teams.

Preferred

  • Background in design-build settings.
  • Working knowledge of Southern California jurisdictions and permitting pathways.
  • Hands-on support for field operations and construction execution.

Location and work style

Based on-site in Sunland, CA 91041. This role blends office, field, and jobsite work across Southern California. In-person presence and the ability to commute to Sunland are required.
