Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU/SDU)
Location: Torrance, California
Position: Registered Nurse (RN)
Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Step-Down Unit (SDU-4)
Assignment Length: 8 Weeks
Openings: 7 RNs
Shift: 12-Hour Shifts
Schedule: 36 Hours/Week
Shifts Available: Days, Nights, Weekends & Holidays
Weekly Pay: $2,400/week
Unit Overview
We are seeking highly skilled Registered Nurses with Progressive Care Unit (PCU)/Step-Down Unit experience to support a high-acuity patient population in Los Angeles.
The PCU provides an intermediate level of care for patients who are too unstable for a general medical-surgical unit but do not require the full intensity of an ICU. Nurses care for patients recovering from major surgeries and serious medical conditions, including heart failure, respiratory conditions, infections, and patients transitioning from the ICU.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive nursing care to high-acuity PCU/step-down patients.
Perform frequent assessments and monitor changes in patient condition.
Provide continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring.
Administer medications, IV therapies, and prescribed treatments.
Provide wound care and pain management.
Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient status.
Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Provide safe, compassionate care to a diverse patient population.
Required Experience
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
Minimum 1 year of recent PCU/Step-Down experience
PCU experience from a Level I Trauma Center
Experience caring for a diverse, high-acuity patient population
Must be fully committed to completing the entire 8-week assignment
Required Certifications & Clearance
All required credentials must be completed prior to the start date, including:
Active RN License
AHA BLS
MAB or CPI
LA City Fire & Life Safety Card — must be issued for the City of Los Angeles

Ideal Candidate: An experienced PCU/SDU RN who is comfortable managing patients requiring telemetry, frequent assessments, IV therapies, and a higher level of monitoring than a traditional med-surg environment.
