Job Description
Hands-on accounting ownership and execution
Overview
Allied West Paper is seeking a capable, hands-on Senior Accounting Specialist to help maintain accurate financial records, support an efficient month-end close, and strengthen day-to-day accounting processes. This role is designed for someone who takes ownership, works through details independently, and consistently turns accounting issues into practical solutions.
Demonstrated accounting ability matters more than a particular degree. The strongest candidate will bring sound judgment, follow-through, and a track record of producing accurate work in a fast-moving operating environment.
Responsibilities
· Prepare and post journal entries and support an accurate, timely month-end close.
· Own general ledger, bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
· Support inventory accounting, cost analysis, and related variance review in a distribution or operating environment.
· Maintain schedules for fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, and other assigned accounts.
· Use Excel and the company’s ERP system to analyze data, improve reporting, and reduce manual work.
· Identify accounting or process issues early, communicate them clearly, and drive them through resolution.
· Document recurring procedures and implement practical process improvements and internal controls.
· Assist with sales tax support, audits, special projects, and other accounting priorities as needed.
Qualifications
· Three or more years of hands-on accounting experience, or an equivalent record of progressively responsible work.
· Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.
· Advanced practical Excel skills, including organizing, validating, and analyzing large data sets.
· Experience working in an ERP or other integrated accounting system; ability to learn new systems quickly.
· Experience with inventory accounting, cost analysis, manufacturing, distribution, or a related environment is strongly preferred.
· Organized, analytical, and dependable, with strong attention to detail and a bias toward action.
· Able to manage competing priorities, communicate clearly, and complete work with limited supervision.
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field is preferred but not required. Relevant experience and demonstrated capability will receive full consideration.
Success Measures
· Month-end responsibilities are completed accurately and on schedule.
· Assigned reconciliations are current, supportable, and free of unexplained items.
· Accounting problems are identified early, researched thoroughly, and resolved with appropriate ownership.
· Inventory and cost information is reliable and useful to business partners.
· Recurring work becomes more efficient, better documented, and less dependent on manual effort.
· Internal customers view the role as responsive, trustworthy, and solutions-oriented.
· Ability to use technology (AI) to improve workflow and provide improved results.
