Compensation: $160K - $185K base salary

About the Role

\n

Our client, a leading global investment management firm, is seeking a Tax Manager to support the tax operations of its mutual fund platform. Reporting to the Managing Director of Tax, this role will oversee key tax compliance and reporting activities while partnering closely with investment, private equity, investor relations, business development, real estate, fund accounting, legal, and compliance teams. The position will also leverage support from direct reports and contractor resources to ensure timely and accurate tax reporting across the mutual fund platform.

Key Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Oversee end-to-end tax compliance and reporting for mutual funds, including review of federal and state tax returns, tax provisions, and shareholder tax reporting prepared by external providers
  • \n

  • Manage and review work performed by direct reports, contractors, and external service providers to ensure accuracy and timeliness
  • \n

  • Coordinate with external advisors on tax matters impacting registered investment companies and related investment structures
  • \n

  • Support responses to shareholder, investor, and internal tax inquiries
  • \n

  • Review and oversee shareholder tax reporting, including Forms 1099-DIV, 1099-B, and related reporting requirements
  • \n

  • Monitor compliance with Subchapter M requirements, including regulated investment company (RIC) qualification, distribution requirements, and excise tax calculations
  • \n

  • Review tax treatment of portfolio transactions, capital gains, dividends, foreign tax credits, and other mutual fund tax attributes
  • \n

  • Partner closely with investment, private equity, investor relations, business development, real estate, fund accounting, and operations teams on tax-related matters
  • \n

  • Support FATCA and CRS reporting obligations and coordinate with internal compliance teams on related requirements
  • \n

  • Manage tax notices and correspondence from federal, state, and foreign tax authorities
  • \n

  • Assist with tax implications related to new fund launches, fund reorganizations, mergers, liquidations, and other strategic initiatives
  • \n

  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and enhanced operational efficiency across the tax function
  • \n

  • Provide technical tax guidance and operational support to internal stakeholders
  • \n

Qualifications

\n

    \n
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • \n

  • 7+ years of tax experience
  • \n

  • Mutual fund tax experience required
  • \n

  • Financial services industry and/or Big Four public accounting background required
  • \n

  • Strong understanding of mutual fund taxation, Subchapter M, shareholder reporting, and investment company structures
  • \n

  • Experience reviewing Forms 1099 and other shareholder tax reporting requirements
  • \n

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • \n

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-review work product and maintain a high level of accuracy
  • \n

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and project management skills
  • \n

  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort improving processes through automation and technology tools
  • \n

  • CPA or JD preferred
  • \n
