Role Description The Garden Nursery Assistant is a part-time, on-site role located in San Miguel, CA. This role supports the daily operations of the garden nursery, including planting, watering, fertilizing, and caring for native plants. The assistant will help maintain nursery stock, prepare plants for landscaping projects, monitor plant health, and report issues such as pests or diseases to supervisors. Responsibilities include maintaining clean and organized work areas, safely operating basic gardening tools and equipment, and assisting with inventory tracking and labeling of plants. The role may also involve collaborating with grounds staff, following safety protocols, and occasionally supporting educational or community-related gardening activities.

- Ability to perform basic horticultural tasks such as planting, watering, pruning, and soil preparation.
- Knowledge of plant care, including recognizing common plant health issues and basic pest management practices.
- Capacity to safely use and maintain hand tools and light gardening equipment (e.g., hoses, pruners, rakes, carts).
- Strong attention to detail for organizing nursery stock, labeling plants, and maintaining accurate records.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with supervisors, grounds staff, and campus partners.
- Reliability in following instructions, adhering to safety guidelines, and consistently completing assigned tasks.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Previous experience in gardening, landscaping, nursery work, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- High school diploma or equivalent is beneficial; interest in horticulture, botany, or environmental science is a plus.
