Principle Responsibilities & Position Purpose:
The General Manager has the primary role in directing hotel operations to ensure smooth daily functions. This position oversees all departments within the property to optimize efficiency, profitability, and the guest experience. The General Manager works closely with other leadership positions such as the Operations Manager, F&B Director and Executive Chef to execute the company’s vision and provide exemplary experiences to all guests.

- Provide follow-up and guidance to department leadership daily
- Foster a positive work environment, motivate staff, and provide leadership to department heads.
- Develop and manage budgets for each department, monitor revenue, analyze financial reports, and identify areas for cost optimization.
- Communicate the property departmental budgets to ensure all department managers are aware of the budgetary guidelines set forth.
- Heavy employee management involvement including interviewing, hiring, terminations, disciplinary action, performance reviews, training and scheduling
- Address scenarios including injury, conflict, complaint or any other cause for incident reports in a timely, thorough fashion under the company’s’ policy and procedure guidelines
- Schedule and lead the operations, safety and departmental meetings
- Conduct thorough inspections of work areas relating to safety and efficiency – communicate issues promptly and work to find resolution (opening and closing walk-through of property included)
- Maintain communication between all departments every day to ensure optimal performance and vendors as needed
- Expediently manage/respond to guest complaints and inquiries in a professional manner – this includes in response through email, phone or in person
- Ensure adherence to all local regulations, licensing requirements, and hospitality industry standards.
- Understanding of financial statements, budgeting, and revenue management strategies.
- Assist in setting department goals and improving or creating incentive programs
- Complete month end duties as assigned by the corporate office; ensure Dept leadership completes their EOM duties, review before submitting to corporate
- Run reports and/or create summaries relating to property revenue performance, rate audits, ADR performance, etc.
- Clear and effective communication with guests, staff, and management to address concerns and convey information.
- Compile and present monthly P&L reviews for the property, as well as assessing mid-month performance and projections.
- Ensure all administrative tasks such as coding and submitting invoices, scheduling by department, and expense/purchasing analysis are done in
a timely, weekly basis.
- Oversee and assist in executing special events such as holiday buffets, celebrations, etc.
- Other duties as necessary
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Must have experience with the following software and internet programs:
Toast, Great Plains, Outlook/Microsoft Office applications, and
StayNtouch (similar cloud-based PMS)
- Familiarity with labor laws and California-specific employment laws.
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language fluently to interact with employees. Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Basic mathematical skills to complete reports and working knowledge of financial statements.
- Be able to maintain strict confidentiality regarding relevant employee / company matters
EDUCATION
Bachelors’ degree in relevant field preferred
EXPERIENCE
5 + years of relevant experience
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES
- Valid drivers’ license
- Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) - preferred
