Direct Counsel is seeking a Labor & Employment Associate Attorney to join a well-established and highly respected California-based law firm in its Los Angeles office. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to build a sophisticated employment law practice while working closely with experienced practitioners on a broad range of litigation and counseling matters.
Position Overview
The ideal candidate will have experience handling California employment law matters, including wage and hour issues, discrimination and harassment claims, employment agreements, workplace investigations, class actions, PAGA matters, and related litigation. This role offers a combination of litigation, client counseling, and preventive employment law advice.
Responsibilities

Advise and counsel employers on a wide range of California employment law issues, including wage and hour compliance, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, leave laws, and employee relations matters.

Draft, review, and negotiate employment-related documents, including employment agreements, severance agreements, handbooks, policies, and workplace procedures.

Represent clients in litigation, arbitration, mediation, and administrative proceedings before state and federal agencies.

Conduct legal research and prepare pleadings, motions, discovery, and other litigation-related documents.

Assist employers with workplace investigations, policy development, employee training, and day-to-day employment counseling.

Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups to provide comprehensive legal solutions for clients.

Stay current on developments in California and federal employment law.
Qualifications

J.D. from an accredited law school.

Active membership in the California State Bar.

1–3 years of experience practicing California labor and employment law.

Strong knowledge of California employment statutes, regulations, and case law.

Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple matters and work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Litigation experience, including administrative proceedings, arbitrations, or court appearances, is preferred.

Must maintain compliance with California MCLE requirements.
